    Are you not reading anything anyone here is saying? No one is ripping you for cheering for the Cubs. You want to stay positive? Have at it. You're the one ripping everyone else for not being blindly optimistic. Well, I didn't appreciate being called a jerk for suggesting that people should cheer for the Cubs instead of rip them. You didn't suggest it. You practically demanded it. Now, I'm not going to speak for jersey about why he said what he said, but if I had to guess, it's because you pretty much implied that everyone who isn't as optimistic as you might as well be a Cardinals fan. Here' what I'm saying: When you come here for the first time, it READS like you've landed in a pack of Cardinals fans. The cynicism and disgust and outright hostility for the Cubs is, like I said, astonishing. It surprised me, frankly. I realize this season hasn't gone the way we wanted it to, but I didn't realize how angry and mean-spirited people are about it. I always considered Cubs fans to be pretty true-blue despite the won-loss record. It's not a big deal, I was just surprised, that's all.

    Read back to some older Game Threads and you'll see we used to be ra-ra and optimistic. At this point, like someone above said, a lot of us feel this is a realistic approach to take with this team based on what they've shown us since April. OK, I see your point. They suck. They're always going to suck. I'll get with the program. You don't have to get with any program, feel free to feel however you do about the Cubs. But you might want to consider stop acting like such a jerk. The Cubs are mediocre. They've been mediocre all year and probably have to make significant changes to not be mediocre next year. I'll reserve judgement about future teams when they get here. That's right, jump down my throat because I still cheer for them. Hey, I came here because I thought it was a place where people rooted for the Cubs, not ripped them at every opportunity. My mistake.

    Wow. God bless the pom-pom wavers. Most of you posters sound like Cardinals fans. I make no apology for still believing they could pull this out. Why even follow the team if you're going to be this negative? why do crack heads still smoke crack despite the fact that its slowly killing them? I'm a crack head because I still want and expect the Cubs to win? I apologize. I thought this was a Web site for Cubs fans.

    The negativity here is astounding. Sure, this season hasn't turned out the way we all wanted it to, but now's not the time to give up. It's not out of reach. Lilly is pitching today. We've still got the most talent, and we've still got time to get it together. I'll give up when Ron Santo does.
