  1. Just so I'm on record somewhere with it: All of the players we've traded away that everyone has been freaking out about... they all suck. Jorge is living off of a .400 BABIP. He's a bad base runner and a horrible defender. His BB/K rate is a little out of whack. He's not seeing many pitches at all in the zone, despite not actually being that imposing. His Contact% is still 67%. Straighten out those things and his BABIP and let his defensive metrics take hold, and he's back to being a below-average player. Gleyber is rocking a 6.4% BB% and 24.1% K%. He's also living off a .400 BABIP. His plate discipline numbers look kinda gross. He swings at too much junk and doesn't make enough contact. And he doesn't have enough power to make up for it. He's just an average-ish to slightly above-average regular. Christian Villanueva has already went back to sucking, like the rest of them soon will. Eloy is Jorge 2.0. Jeimer Candelario's numbers actually look pretty legit. He's not living off a ridiculous BABIP and his plate discipline numbers look solid. But I don't think he's a .224 ISO guy, either. He doesn't hit the ball that hard. (None of these guys are putting up huge exit velocity numbers.) He's probably just an average-ish player, too.
  2. The Dodgers got us beat again. They didn't even have to play the bottom of the 9th tonight.
  3. Not juiced anymore, but PTR couldn't afford to buy any of the new balls so our pitchers are using last year's version.
  4. Yep, Javy throwing the ball into the stands is a lot more noticeable than a ball trickling under a diving shortstop's glove or a poor exchange on a turn at second that leads to a guy making first by half-a-step.
  5. Kept Cabrera on my roster even though he's butt and has been injured for two weeks. Planned it perfectly by being lazy and waiting until Pollock coincidentally got hurt to make a move.
  6. The rankings have us at third best in UZR and DRS. 1) We're used to 2016, so watching them play like horsefeathers sticks out more than it would when other teams suck. Our expectations are different. They haven't played as well as they should. 2) By errors, they've been below average. So they have kinda sucked. 3) They rate really well in range. And the outfield arms have been fantastic. And also, we are excellent at turning double plays. That's why the numbers say we're still really good.
  7. Drop Miguel Cabrera and add Matt Chapman.
  8. I just had a LOT of Wire gifs I wanted to use, and I'm not going to get the chance now. horsefeathering Quintana. We've all been there. It's basically a coin flip.
  9. i just don't know why you have to pretend like this isn't baseball, and that the cubs are pre-determined to be awesome. like kyle said, the 2015 nationals can happen to anyone. i shouldn't be predicting it to happen, but you shouldn't act like you know it won't. i think you want to be anti-meatball so much that you've basically become a new york sports fan. http://www.reactiongifs.com/r/goodday.gif
  10. okay, but i hope you realize that i am complaining about a stupid sports team and you're trying to make this personal and act all offended about it. Nothing personal. I'm just not going to bother with the same arguments all year with someone who is so clearly lost.
  11. at this point you're just putting your fingers in your ears and saying "i can't hear you" Ok, I'm done communicating with you for the year.
  12. Since the World Series, the Cubs won 92 games (a feat only topped by 5 Cubs teams in probably all of our lifetimes). They won a division title (a feat matched by 6 Cubs teams in our lifetimes). They are 21-17 and 1.5 games back of a team who is not very good. They've actually played much better than that, ranking 2nd in the NL in run differential. their Pythag record and BaseRuns suggest they should be some 9-10 games over .500. They are loaded with an incredible amount of young, position-player talent. They won you the horsefeathering World Series. Forgive me if I don't feel your pain.
  13. "Since reaching the highest mountaintop, we've gone downhill." intentionally misunderstanding stuff like this is part of the reason i get annoyed at faux confidence. things were never going to be as good as they were in 2016, but we all thought they'd be better than they have been since then. How am I supposed to interpret it when your words were literally "you're lying if you say things haven't been on a downward trend since the world series" Um, sure, we went a whole year without winning the World Series. Let' all turn into jamfan!
  14. It is. It's two weeks. And he should pull the ball. You're wrong. Again.
  15. "Since reaching the highest mountaintop, we've gone downhill."
  16. It’s not confidence, it’s just mostly common sense knowing this is a good team. The constant complaining and doom boonering isn’t a great look on you either. Did u even enjoy just winning 5 in a row or were u just waiting for the first loss to make complaints? well expectations used to be higher than getting excited about a 5 game win streak against bottom feeders following a 5 game losing streak i'm just sick of the cubs constantly being worse than they should be For the millionth time, they've won 292 games the last three years, been to three straight NLCS, and won the World Series. What the horsefeathers are you talking about?
