  1. Next game he should be able to go 90+ pitches. And in even happier news, J.J. Bour is 3-3 with a HR. He's now batting .327 with 11 HRs.
  2. #-o psssssst... jinxes aren't real. Oh really? Beeler never made it out of the 5th inning. Giving up 4 hits, 3 runs (all earned) and a HR while only retiring one. And that happened immediately after you wrote the word "perfect". I blame you.
  3. And that's where it will end for Kurcz tonight. Not bad at all.
  4. Nice performance by Beeler thru 4. Nice being an understatement. I just can't get myself to say the word for fear it'll jinx him. He's perrrffff....
  5. Well, he didn't swing at it...
  6. I think we can expect around 70 pitches from McNutt today. I'm excited to see how Beeler does. And Kurcz has been coming of late, so I'm interested there, too.
  7. Given past performance and the fact that we are talking about a 21 year old who is still developing, I wouldn't call it an anomaly that he is hitting well. As you said, his BABIP is high, but not ridiculously so. Lake has hit .284 previously in his career and is repeating this level, so I could see him hitting a legit .290-.300. What may prove to be the anomaly by season's end is his April 20/0 K/BB ratio. In May he's struckout 23 times and walked 6. That's still way too many strikeouts, but his IsoD for the month is .051. Below average, but not nearly as terrible as his April IsoD of -.008. Given he had an IsoD last year of .069, I don't think his performance in April is indicative of how he will likely perform the rest of the season. His SLG is up. His SB are way up as are his runs scored. He's still intriguing but he's got a long way to go. Being coachable would go a long way towards getting him where he needs to/is capable of being.
  8. I love his ceiling and hate his floor. But I've never been one to let fear behind the steering wheel. I'd love it if he fell to the Cubs. There's a lot of good depth in this draft, but only a few potential superstars and I think Bubba is one of them. Go big or go home. If he fails, and he might, there should still be good, and possibly safer bets, in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. Yeah, this is where I've wound up as well. Considering we can get 1st round talent in the 2nd and 3rd round, take safer guys there and highest upside early(Starling, if he's there). Well, you know what they say, davell, great minds...
  9. Junior Lake has stolen his 17th base. Did he get remarkably faster this off season or were the Cubs just keeping him on a leash because his previous high for stolen bases was 13 and we're not even out of May yet.
  10. Edit: Damn you CubsWin. Snooze you looze. :P
  11. LeMaheiu 3-for-4 today. Now batting .367.
  12. Finished the day 2-4, with a walk and a SB, his 11th against 1 CS. He's batting .327 with an OBP over .400.

  14. I'm still high on Lake's potential. Would obviously like to see him invert that bb/k ratio, though. Of course, I'm still pleased with Vitters' start to the year, too, though I want to see more power and patience there. We all can expect more patience from Vitters and Lake, but I don't think anyone can ask more patience of you, Tim. You don't give up easily... Try to find anyone else in the minors with 50% more xbh than strikeouts. Dare ya. No man, I'm with you on Vitters. Keep the faith, brotha. Lake, on the other hand, I'm not so sure about...

  16. Graham Hicks with his best outing of the year through 4. 4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 6 K, 4/1 GO/FO.
  17. Thanks much, CubsWin. Just to clarify on the 92-94 with precision: 1. Are you just deducing that because Az Phil said he was 92-94 last fall, and you deduce from his results that he's doing so with precision? 2. Or is this really info from this spring? You've seen the 92-94 bit, or you've gotten that from some source who has seen him this spring? I'm assuming it's #2, real info from this spring which may be consistent with AzPhil's stuff but is independent of it? Heh, I'm just trying to be careful. Once in a while I read something multiple times, and I think it's multiple confirmation that the info is correct. When really it's one report of a guy hitting 90-X miles per hour, and multiple posters kind of repeating that. So yours really is a fresh report, I think? In the another thread, I mistaken thought Beeler was throwing 90-92 and toonsterwu corrected me that he was throwing 92-94 and touching higher. I deduced that he must be throwing it with pretty good precision because he's only walked 3 batters all season. I don't know where toonster got it from, but he seems like a pretty reliable source to me. I wish I could verify it better than that for you, but...
  18. Lake walked to lead off the D-Cubs game today. That gives him 6 on the year against only 42 strikeouts. You're not...you're not good. However, Justin Bour is. 4-for-4 today with 2 more doubles. :D
  19. toonster, assuming their production doesn't take a dramatic turn for the worse, where would you place Justin Bour and Micah Gibbs?
  20. I think so, though not for a while yet. He started out the season a little bumpy as most players do while adjusting to the new level. But since late April, he's pitched 20 innings, allowing 1 earned run on 12 hits with 9 walks against 20 strikeouts. Not too shabby for a 20 year old at High-A. If/when Kurcz does get promoted, I wouldn't be surprised to see Dallas Beeler replace him in Daytona. He pitched 4 innings of 1 hit ball, with 4 Ks and 0 BBs. He now has an 0.86 ERA in Peoria holding MWL hitters to a .187 AVG, striking out 15 while walking just 3. Apparently he is locating a 92-94 mph fastball with pretty good precision. He looks like another late round steal so far. I think Austin Kirk is more likely to get the promotion from Peoria, especially since he hasn't missed time with injury. Yeah, I was thinking about Kirk also. What has me leaning Beeler is that he's a year older. Maybe that won't factor in. We'll see. What's nice is that they are both performing well enough to be considered. :D

  22. And we didn't even have to send up the Bruce signal! Bruce Miles is like a superhero in NSBBLand. He swoops in at the first sign of confusion and lays down some truth. Thank you, Caped Crusader!
  23. But its not like he missed that much time. Wasn't it like 1-2 starts? I guess its more encouraging that both times they pulled him after an inning than in the middle of one. Yes, but I would imagine with a blister, you can't throw at all. You just have to let it heal, I don't know. Plus, they're probaby just being careful with him, easing him back in. No reason not to. If his next start is around 70 pitches, that should confirm it.
  24. At least, Trey did well. 49 pitches (31 strikes), 3 IP, 4 H, 1 ER,0 BB & 3 K. He got 5 ground outs against 0 fly outs. I'll take the performance. Now I just want to know why he's being held to 50 pitches. Last time out he only went 2 innings on 32 pitches, so maybe they're just re-stretching him out like they would in ST after being out 2 weeks with the blister.
