    I was just thinking about the same thing. The only positive explanation I could come up with was maybe he's working on a new pitch. After all, especially at the lower levels, the minors is for development more than performance. Other than that, it's possible he's just not...not good.

    Well, Lake was just promoted. And if they'd have asked me, I would've promoted Flaherty over LeMaheiu. He's two years older and plays the same positions Baker does.

    Agree on the catchers. And Ha back to Daytona makes sense given that he's just 20, but it surprised me given what the Cubs had said about his promotion not being injury-related. I'm glad to see Lake moving up. He'd spent a lot of time at High-A and was hitting well.

Cubs don't feel it's serious enough to bring him to Chicago to see the docs here. thanks... though i don't like the idea that a guy who doubled over in pain after throwing a pitch is diagnosed as "no big deal." hopefully they at least tossed him in an mri machine. I know. I hate it when they use divination to diagnose somebody. Stupid Cobs! If only MRIs existed outside of Chicago... I didn't miss it. My point was, I don't think we have to hope. They're not that dumb. No one is. It's standard procedure in order to make an accurate diagnosis. And who used the words "no big deal"? Bruce didn't and as far as we know no one from the Cubs did either. Just because the injury was deemed not severe enough to have the Cubs team doctors in Chicago get involved doesn't mean the Cubs were negligent in any way. I agree it's surprising with the way he was described as doubling over, but come on, couldn't it just be good news that it wasn't as bad as we initially feared?

    Now I'm hearing Cole's 101 was in the 8th inning. Unconfirmed reports that he hit 102. He had a half dozen pitches hit triple digits. And Bauer struck out 14 last night. 8th straight complete game. I'm a big proponent of the Cubs taking a pitcher with the 9th pick. Bubba Starling has very rare upside, so I would be okay if he fell to them, but otherwise, I want them to take a pitcher. The Cubs lack a prospect who has a solid chance at being a future ace. There appear to be a few of them in this draft, and they should have a shot at least one of them. The only other position player I would take is Rendon, but he won't be there at 9. The Cubs have good depth at pitcher, several guys who project to be serviceable 3, 4 and 5 starters, but outside of McNutt, Simpson and maybe Whitenack (and they only have an outside chance), no one projects as an ace.

    Brett Wallach's been inconsistent, but he pitched a nice game today. 5 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K. Lake, Crawford and Bour continue hitting. Lake and Crawford are repeating this level and Bour is a year old for it. I'd like to see what they can do in AA in the 2nd half this year.

The way he doubled over I was hoping for some sort of abdominal strain. But I'd rather have an answer than not. Once again, we didn't even have to put up the Bruce Signal. :wink: Thanks.

    Szczur is starting to make me feel like he was worth the investment. I'm having much the same feeling. In fact, it's still a bit early, but I've been pleasantly surprised by a lot of guys this year.

    Bour's on fire and has been on fire for a long time now. I'm impressed. I'm in wait and see mode with Rhee, but today is definitely encouraging. His BB numbers on the season still scare the hell out of me. Still, encouraging outing today. Yep, that's why I'm in wait and see mode. One good outing isn't nearly enough. Let's see 4 or 5 more like it and then I'll have hope that he might be regaining his previous form. Well, if Rhee has 4 or 5 more 10/1 K/BB games, he'd be a top 3 prospect in the system. They don't have to be exactly like it. Just good outings where he isn't getting hit a lot and isn't walking a lot of guys. Picky, picky... :D

    Not sure where Goldstein is getting his stuff. But if Rhee's fastball is "solid", that's pretty significant news. I think he was pretty much an 85-88 guy last summer. That's what I remember. I raised an eyebrow when I read that. Hope he's accurate. Though the meaning of "solid" is open to interpretation.

    Hayden Simpson finally putting together a line worthy of his draft position. Thru 5, he's allowed 2 hits, 1 unearned run, 1 walk and 7 strikeouts.

    Dae-Eun Rhee has been coming on of late. Thru 5 today, he's allowed 2 earned, striking out 10 while walking 1.

    That's some kind of hot streak. What's more, he's walked 6 times and struck out none. This guy is dialed in right now.
