  1. Barnes is my pick. Guerreri wouldn't be bad. Springer would be okay. Not huge on Jungmann.
  2. I can see Wilken going Gray. Sonny, that is.
  3. Well, I guess I 'm rooting for Matt Barnes now.
  4. Dbacks would be taking a risk in using an unsecured pick on Archie.
  5. That blows. Now I don't know who I want.
  6. [expletive]. I hope that means Archie Bradley falls to the Cubs.
  7. Kevin Goldstein is hearing rumors that Baltimore will select Jed Bradley. That's Jed.
  8. Hultzen 2nd...interesting. Not a big change, but not predicted.
  9. More excellent amateur talent assessment by the Cubs' top notch scouting department. You're absolutely right. Every other team finds great talent in the 8th round, but the Cubs always blow it. I mean, just look at last year's 8th round pick, Robert Whitena... Never mind.
  10. Well, Scout's has George Springer at 9. I still think the Cubs should go with a pitcher and preferably a college one. If Starling's there, I'm okay with that. If Archie Bradley's there, I'm okay with that. Otherwise, I'm happy with Barnes or Jungmann. Hopefully, there's a surprise and someone else falls.
  11. I'm assuming Penalver is on DSL2 because Francisco Sanchez is on DSL1, otherwise don't see why such a highly touted kid is down on the B-squad. That said, the B-squad seems to have some high priced talent to start, with Penalver, Candelario, and Antonio Gonzalez there. Unless I'm mixing up which one is the B-squad? Nope, you've got it right. Penalver is on DSL 2. He's yet to strike out. Has walked 5 times and is hitting over .300. Very small sample size, but he's off to a good start and apparently looks good to some scouts.
  12. Someone send out the Bruce signal.
  13. Good, but not great. His drafts have yet to produce elite talent. The top names from his drafts are, off the top of my head, Josh Vitters, Andrew Cashner, Brett Jackson, and Trey McNutt. All seem to have gotten consideration as Top 30 players at various points in their minor league careers, but that pretty much seems to be the ceiling. None of those guys have reached their respective ceilings yet, so perhaps they might break through. However, as things stand now, I don't think any of them will be superstars. Where I will give Wilken credit is that his drafts have produced depth. There are a ton of high floor guys in the Cubs' system who have a very good chance of contributing in the majors, but who might not have top shelf upside. In all honesty, if the Cubs clean house in the offseason, I wouldn't mind seeing Wilken go. He's been decent, but the Cubs could do better. I agree. He's been good, but I'd like to see the Cubs get a great scouting director, and a great GM while they're at it.
  14. How close is Beliveau to being major league ready. His numbers have been great this year, and they've been consistently good his entire pro career. He seems to have greatly improved his control this season. Might he be a call up later this season?
  15. How about Casey Harman so far? The MWL doesn't seem to be posing much of challenge. 18.2 IP, 10 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 19 Ks. He's a 6'1" lefty. Anybody have a scouting report on what he throws?
  16. And why exactly did the Cubs choose to promote Silva again...?
  17. I was just thinking about the same thing. The only positive explanation I could come up with was maybe he's working on a new pitch. After all, especially at the lower levels, the minors is for development more than performance. Other than that, it's possible he's just not...not good. His control has been the big question since he was drafted and he's facing a tougher level of competition than Boise last season. So then as Chevy Chase told Rodney Dangerfield, "You're not...you're not good". Though if he was able to refine his mechanics such that his delivery is consistently repeatable, then he might be good.
  18. Even more XBHs for Szczur - he just hit HR #2. Yes!
  19. More XBHs from Szczur today. A double. His 10th. Alcantara with a 2B and a 3B. He, like a lot of young dominican players, struggles with plate discipline, but when you keep in mind that he's just 19 and will be all season, he remains intriguing.
