  1. I'd have flagged him (for roughing the passer)
  2. Why would Northwestern do that on the 30 yard line? Can they make a 47 yarder? edit: never mind
  3. That's how they did it when they had a 12 team playoff
  4. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NCAA_Division_I_Football_Championship 16
  5. I just looked at my alma mater's football record, and they've had something like 11 winning seasons since the beginning of WWI. The last winning season happened around the time I was learning to walk. They play in possibly the weakest conference in college football (NESCAC) and every year they schedule the two other worst teams in the conference. Ya Bates
  6. I didn't see the roughing call or hold, but if a ball carrier can draw a personal foul by lowering his helmet and charging a defender we might as well cancel the sport they've been calling questionable hits when the defender lowers his head all season. it's not like this is a new thing that they just did this game. doesn't really matter if you agree with the overall rule, it's been strictly applied this year. This wasn't about the defender, it was about the ... offender. The defender's only options there were to be penalized, to be speared, or to run away from the ball carrier. Maybe you've seen that called a lot this season, I haven't (although I'm not a big college football fan, so you're more likely to have seen it be called if it is). It's either a terrible, horrible, no good very bad call or a rule written by a madman.
  7. Holy cow

  9. what a ridiculous call
  10. Iowa is having a very weird season
  11. I bet less than 10% of Americans know that. And I don't think it's that close to 10%. That's pretty sad. You're saying over 90% of America make it through their lives not knowing what Abe was talking about. And worse -- not bothering to find out. Well, A) no, they don't have to make it through their lives to be ignorant now. B) yes, people are pathetically ignorant, so let's go over some estimates. Maybe 60% of the country can identify "four score and seven years ago" as being a prominent part of a famous speech. Less than a third of them can identify within 5 years when that speech was, and at best two thirds of that 60% know what speech and what speech giver that's from. A small fraction of that will bother doing the math to figure out what 186_-(20*4+7)=? and a portion of those will known 1863 and 1776, but they already know what a "score" is. Most will simply be content knowing what Abe was talking about. Only the nerds of the esoterics of the educated will bother doing the math to figure out what a score is by knowing what the Gettysburg address said. I'm guessing that other sources of knowledge inform most people who know.
  12. Anyway, I was specifically referring to doing what they did there and calling the timeout late enough to see the other team's play instead of what we've seen ridiculously often this season, where a coach calls a timeout as the kicker kicks a field goal, giving him a free practice kick under game conditions
  13. Icing the onside kick is so much smarter than icing the post-kicking field goal kicker.
  14. I can't believe I lost the exact score call like that. Oh, and that means the Falcons cover
  15. I had New Orleans 35, Atlanta 24, too. I bet this screws me.
  16. terrible way to blow out your knee. Bet he'll be more alert when he comes back.

  18. That was one of the the most obvious reviews I've ever seen. Even if it had been a fumble it would have been the tuck rule
  19. Hard to believe he blew that call. right before him and it was obvious live from the back side camera
  20. That was an amazing interception
  21. Yeah, up 3-1 you don't need to pitch people on short rest
  22. I think Ted Washington or Keith Traylor could have outrun Feliz there. How many 34 year old short stops (and I was thinking more like 31) are much slower than 36 year old left fielders? And Traylor might weigh 500 lbs by now Feliz is a 3B. Ha, a good point.

  24. Feliz can't outrun Damon in 2009? edit: he's a lot older than I thought
