I thought the story was Hines lowballed Maddux, Maddux looked elsewhere and still decided he would take the lesser offer with the Cubs and then the Cubs PULLED that one off the table. Makes me want to sob uncontrollably.

Trump is less than 5 minutes from Lake Shore Drive. But, anyways its pretty cool he moved fairly close to Wrigley and as others said he only spent 80% of one years salary.. so if he wanted a luxury penthouse downtown it would be not to much of a problem for Mr. Epstein to get that done. In fact he might be keeping his place in Boston with the housing market down and all his family there (I haven't heard anything about his place there being up for sale).

I like how he is trying to make the point the playoffs are a crapshoot saying 10 different teams have won titles in the last 11 years. He didnt mention which team had the continued success to pull it out twice in 10 years, Theo's Red Sox, or that they averaged 93 wins a year over there in Boston.

I also find it hilarious that Kenney is portrayed as some evil monster of the Cubs organization when it's been firm since Ricketts has been there that Kenney is only involved in the business side of operations which has been a hell of alot better than the baseball side of operations.

Jordan's is pretty decent, its in the intercontinental hotel. Beautiful restaurant, good service, and food. I'd say its one of the three or four best high end steakhouses in the city right now.

Off Topic but Theo and Ricketts were at Michael Jordans Steakhouse tonight.. had dinner in the private dining room with a party of 18.

Should we start another thread now for predictions on Theo/Hoyer's plan of attack for the offseason. My wild prediction is a name we could see the Cubs going after in the next couple years is Felix Hernandez. Theo reportedly tried to get him a few different times with the Red Sox, even trying to get other teams involved such as the Padres for a three way trade. I believe he still has 3 more years on his contract with the Mariners so it might be next offseason that Theo sets his sights on him again, but he's one name that Theo has been linked to a ton.

You must think very highly of the Cubs' farm system if you see a top 50 prospect who could be major league ready by next season as a mid-level prospect. You must think highly of the Cubs system if you consider him top 50. He had a step back, hes not top 50 until he proves something at the higher levels. Blisters are a concern, but I'm just not a fan...now that's me personally...my opinion is like all of yours it means nothing in the basis of these talks. It all depends on how these teams view the Cubs farm system. BA had him at 48 this year. I'm sure he'll drop out of the top 50 after struggling with injuries this year, but even if you amend my statement, it still holds true. You must think highly of the Cubs' system if you consider a top 100 prospect who could be major league ready next year as a mid-level prospect. When I think of a mid-level prospect, I don't think of a guy who has a very good shot at making the majors in some capacity. Im a big McNutt fan but I highly doubt he is major league ready next season. I think all in all giving up McNutt if push came to shove is something the Cubs should do. If you think about it he is now the 4th step down in negotiations supposedly. First it was Garza/Castro, we all knew that wasnt going to happen, 2nd was Bjax and justifiably so the Cubs turned that down, then there was talk of Sczur, and now the talk seems to have shifted to McNutt, would I like to get out of this without giving up McNutt.. absolutely. But, IMO at this point if the Cubs giveup McNutt for Epstein, they have won the war.

The Red Sox seem to be balking at allowing top aides to come over with Epstein but arent most front office jobs 1 to 2 year contracts. Im sure they are more loyal to Theo then the Red Sox ownership. Should we expect alot of these front office guys to be on the Cubs staff in a year or two?

Cubs hold all the cards now, there will be compensation but the Red Sox will not rip off the Cubs. If the Red Sox want to play hardball the Cubs can just pick a GM like Byrnes or even interview Cherington since it would be a promotion. Slide one of those guys into GM, keep Crane as President of Business Operations, and then Theo comes over 12 months from now with a huge stain on the Red Sox organization.

This reminds of two pics with captions after Hendry was supposedly chatting with Pujols on the field earlier this year? One said something like final offer 1 billion dollars, and I cant remember what the other pic caption was but it was hilarious. Can someone post this again.

If Theo wants the president title, and Cherington is a young genius and his buddy why not go for the package deal of Theo, Francona, and Cherington (pres, manager, gm)? I've heard Francona and Theo linked but nobody has speculated about all three coming to the Cubs.
