  1. Anyhoo, I'm sorry for my outbursts. I get upset when the Cubs do shitty things, when obviously, they didn't mean to do those shitty things on purpose. The Cubs didn't decide to hit like [expletive] tonight, it's just bad a stretch of bad luck.
  2. God this game is annoying. Just wasn't meant to happen, I guess. Good job at the plate tonight, Cubs.
  3. They made him leave before completing 5. I'm sorry that variance didn't go our way tonight, like it has about 10 times already this month. Oh, I know. What's more frustrating is the fact that the Cardinals and Pirates, two teams also prone to baseball variance, don't [expletive] lose. They've been winning all the matchups they're supposed to win.
  4. I feel like the first thing Maddon needs to say at pre-game pep talks when we're facing mediocre pitchers is 'This guy sucks. Beat up on his ass.'
  5. Welcome back, Cubs of early July. Christ, can we earn more than one run off of Mat [expletive] Latos? (The balked run doesn't count).
  6. Coghlan having no luck with first pitch swings tonight.
  7. was going to say this earlier ,but figured i'd just catch [expletive]. i can't stand him You are among friends, Scully is bad. I was forced into listening to him on the radio earlier and it wasn't as bad as TV, but he still started to tell a story of someone from 60 years ago who wouldn't throw to first like Lester. Brutal. You guys have no appreciation for the simple things.
  8. Please don't overturn this. Can we have this one, please?
  9. Just waiting on those clutch hits tonight.
  10. Ugh. Wanted to push Latos well over 60 pitches that inning.
  11. Yeah, I'm surprised Crawford caught that.
  12. Oh, so Latos is going to revert to his ace self for this start. All right.
  13. Is there a chance that both the Dodgers and the Giants or both the Mets and the Nationals catch us? Sure. Is there a realistic chance? Absolutely not. I haven't been one of those crying doom and gloom about us missing the playoffs, though.
  14. Is there a chance we catch the Cardinals? Sure. Is there a realistic chance? Absolutely not.
  15. This tweet would be infinitely better if it said "Literally anyone else."
  16. THAT was the one i forgot Holy moly he had an 8 ERA in 4 starts Lieber pitched for the Cubs in 2008? All I remember is everyone bitching about Marquis that year (When he had a 1.7 fWAR, which is perfectly serviceable for a fifth starter).
  17. Yeah, some posters around here are bad at discerning sarcasm.
  18. Why would you compare the Cubs to a historically great pitching staff? Setting the bar a little high don't you think? One doesn't simply arrange a sub-3 ERA pitching staff at the drop of a hat. You either develop an amazing farm system, overpay for aces who will lose their luster in a few years, or trade from hitting depth to acquire young, cost-controlled pitchers. The first and third options take time to develop the necessary talent, and you don't want to lean too heavily on the second choice.
  19. This makes the Pirates' inability to lose even more infuriating.
  20. What upsets me is that the FO traded for a mediocre 5th starter when we had the means to get someone much better (not to mention our internal options aren't going to perform any worse than Haren on any given day). Not saying we should have overpaid for someone like Price or Hamels, but Christ, surely there was a number 3 or 4 type we could have gotten. We were only a handful of games above .500 at the trade deadline and it wasn't clear we were going to surge into the Wild Card lead. The FO should have known to give the Cubs a bigger edge than Dan [expletive] Haren at the back of the rotation.
  21. [expletive] the Cardinals. I wish this reality could be spliced onto an alternate reality where the Cardinals never existed and the Cubs are the Yankees of baseball. (Because wishing for a hole to open up and swallow the Cardinals' team bus is too cruel, in my eyes).
