But then you can laugh at them in a few years when the Cubs have a stranglehold on the division. one massive contract will not equal *rings* for either of those teams. It also wont exclude our own ring(s). What? I read your response wrong, I thought you were saying that if we sign Fielder, eventually they will have better teams. nvm. but in any case, I want to laugh at them.

    I actually think that the way things are going it is inevitable that the NL will adopt the DH, eventually. But unless there's been a lot more internal talk that those guys are away of, it's not really something you can count on happening with the timeframe of a contract signed this year. I'm a traditionalist in theory when it comes to the DH, but in reality I really wish the NL would get over it and adopt it. It creates an unbalanced situation when you can sign a guy to a long contract with the idea that they could eventually be slotted to the DH. eta: and actually, whats the benefit of not having the DH? I cant think of a single one. eta2: DH, so I dont confuse anyone else

    fixed I think DE needs to be picked over LB. Maybe even 1st. Got nothing on the opposite side of Peppers. Idonije is a FA. Idonije is 30. Wootton is MIA. Chauncey Davis is.....who? At LB, you still have Urlacher and Briggs who aren't leaving the field and you have a team that plays 40-55% nickel defense during the season. Why spend a high pick on a guy that's going to play 1/2 the time and is not a pass rusher? Plus, Roach is serviceable, JT Thomas was looking decent before injury. DeCicco will have a year under his belt and you can draft a guy late (4th-5th round) to put in the mix also. not first, unless its a huge value pick. WR (and still the o-line) are huge holes. And the DL is doing fine with out someone opposite Peppers, Okoye, Adams, Paea are all producing and relatively young I could see DE as equal to LB, but not instead of. Briggs and Urlacher are past their primes. Our CB's are frightening. They miss entire games. The safeties look to be up to snuff,and maybe the only position other then interior DL on the defense that doesnt need immediate help.

    I want Fielder, if nothing else then for a bragging point to all my Brewer or Cardinal fan friends. that's it. he's worth it for that point alone.

    I would think 15-20 from the time they turn 18. It's not reasonable to expect a 12 year old victim to press charges by the time he's 25, or whatever the hell needed to happen to make this stick. So effectively 25+ years from any alleged incident? I know it sounds good here. Any time there's a crime, the SOL seems like it should extend to whenever a charge is brought. But 25 years is a long time for witnesses to remember stuff and evidence to sit around. You aren't talking about any old crime. Raping a kid who stands very little chance of testifying against his abuser any sooner demands a longer period of time. I know someone who held the knowledge of their own rape for 16 years just because the perpetrator was someone they looked up to. I'm pretty sure they remember the events as if they happened yesterday.

    its insane. survivors of this type of abuse should be allowed to take their damn time with coming forward. putting limitations on it is asinine and byzantine. it protects molesters due to the extreme stress the abuse puts on the victims.
