  1. Do you guys think any of this Rule V talk has anything to do with Donald Veal?? He is listed as one of the best players available in this draft. So maybe the Padres are waiting to see if they can draft him with their 3rd overall pick or whatever they have. And if they do, then the Cubs would then have to include another prospect or something, but if they don't draft him, then maybe he is to be included or something along these lines?? Cuz isn't Veal one of the Cubs better prospects? Why wasn't he protected?
  2. Levine was basically saying that the holdup is that the Cubs want Marquis to be included in the deal. The Cubs would eat about 6-7 million of his contract, and then the Padres would take the rest of the 2-3 million. Then the Padres would try and ship Marquis off to another team on their own. Towers doesn't want to take that money on, but under the right circumstances he would. -If this is true then there's no way a deal does not get done over 2-3 million dollars. I have a feeling that tomorrow before they leave, they will agree to take on Marquis' salary and get the deal done. Hendry is just trying to hold out till the last second to try and save as much money as he can from Marquis.
  3. You really need to stop blaming Hendry if he can't pull off a trade because another team is asking too much. Because you would be the first one to bash him if he gets ripped off in a deal. The Padres are not asking for "too much." There is no "too much" for Jake freakin' Peavy!. Vitters, Pie, DeRosa, and Hart??? That's too much for one of the best pitchers in baseball? Pie is terrible, and will be just like Corey Patterson. Hart gets rocked every time out. DeRosa can easily be replaced by Fontenot and is only ours for 1 more year anyways. Vitters is a great prospect, but will NEVER be as valuable as a Jake Peavy. Jim needs to stop f'in playin around and get the deal done. Give them whatever needs to be included. Leave Marquis out of it. Just get the trade done then worry about adding the RF then worry about trading Marquis separately. A team will pay 5 million dollars for Marquis. Just get the trade done first! The longer they wait, the more Peavy will want out of SD and likely accept a trade to NY or LA.
  4. I thought the cubs were close to signing Bradley? But if they are close to trading for someone, why not Felix Pie and pitching prospect for Hermida?
  5. Did he say a "rightfielder" or an "outfielder"? cuz it could be just a backup OF like Willy Taveras.
  6. Because he can have Dempster, Peavy, AND a LH bat while getting rid of Marquis.
  7. I really feel like that is the holdup. Hendry is talking to multiple teams about players involved in the deal, like DeRosa or Marquis. Maybe 2 or 3 teams want Marquis and Hendry is just trying to get them to take on most of his salary. Hendry is really in no hurry. He is just trying to get the best deal right now. Maybe when Thursday comes he'll make up his mind. I don't think anything will happen until then.
  8. I still don't understand! There are free agents out there like Jamie Moyer who will probably get 7-9 million dollars, and hes 50 years old! Carlos Silva got like 13 million. Yet no one wants 1 year of Marquis for 9 million?? He is better than both those pitchers. And if we ate like 3 or so million that would make him only 6 million. We don't need anything in return!!! The Phillies could really use Marquis as well. I have a feeling that Hendry is just waiting this out to see if he can get someone else to take Marquis where we would only eat a tiny portion of his salary. Whereas maybe the padres or Phillies right now would get Marquis and we'd have to eat like half.
  9. ESPN is always like 7 hours behind. This morning when all the sources said the Cubs are refuting the rumors that a deal is close, that's where ESPN is getting it little bottomline tracker.
  10. Gammons just said that the Cubs think a deal will get done for Peavy. The Padres are a little more skeptical but still optimistic. -Didn't all the other reports say that the Cubs were the ones being skeptical?
  11. This could get bad REALLY quickly. Rumor has it that Sabathia declined the Yanks offer and the Brewers are the favorites. What if the Yanks look to get Peavy now? We lose out on Peavy and the Brewers keep Sabathia. I hate Sabathia!!! Take the more money and go to NY!
  12. Man, I hope they sign Bradley quickly today, and then move straight to Peavy and get them both done today.
  13. I don't think Marquis has negative value to the Phillies. They NEED starters. They are contemplating giving Jamie Moyer 10 million $. Jamie Moyer is like 45 years old and not good. I would much rather have Marquis.
  14. That's a ton to give up for Peavy, but I'd still love it. Do you really think Happ is worth Marquis (a ML starter) and DeRosa (a very good player) This trade looks more fair if we get someone like Scott Hairston or Giles back in return as well.
  15. If we are giving up both DeRosa and Marquis, I can only imagine that we'll be getting back an outfielder like Giles or Scott or Hairston.
  16. I don't think we'll trade Marshall... If we get rid of Marquis then we'll really need Marshall as insurance. I think the Padres will get Vitters, Cedeno, Hart, Happ, and Olson for him. Pie to Baltimore. Marquis to PHI. Everyone wins. Except maybe PHI but maybe they think they win too.
  17. This guy's thoughts deserve discussion or at least validation. Ummm the Phillies said they wouldn't even give up Donald for Delmon Young. He's not goin anywhere.
  18. Cedeno will be gone. How bout Furcal at SS with a platoon at 2B. But then we're screwed in RF UNLESS we're getting a RF back in the deal like Giles or Scott or Hairston.
  19. I hope they're right: MLBTRADERUMORS 8:01pm: Scott Miller of CBSSports.com says Jason Marquis and Angel Guzman (among others) could end up with the Padres in the three-team deal. The Padres could get J.A. Happ and/or Chris Coste from the Phils. Miller adds that the Phils are known to have interest in Mark DeRosa.
  20. How do you know? What if WE are misinterpreting Rosenthal. To me it sounds like they are entering as the 3rd team involved in the race for Peavy. Rosenthal himself put a quote under the Peavy pic saying "The Cubs and Phils have both started talks with the Pads about Jake Peavy." I don't see the Phillies going up to the Pads and saying "Oh you guys want to trade Peavy?? We'll give you some of our awesome young pitchers if you guys could get us Ronny Cedeno... we want him really bad!" They have 1 starting pitcher on their team, 1 wife beater, 1 chubasaur and 2 scrubs. They NEED pitching.
  21. How come everyone thinks that the Phillies entering means they would be the 3rd team in a 3 way with the cubs and pads? It seems like they are entering to get Peavy themselves. Even in Rosenthal's blog, under Peavy's pic it says something like "cubs and phillies both started talks with the padres about jake peavy." Phillies being the 3rd team involved in the discussions can easily just mean that the phillies are the only other team towers is talking to about peavy. 1) sd 2) chi 3) phi. Or it could mean that they are the 3rd team to be interested in peavy. 1) cubs 2) LAD 3) PHI. Cuz earlier today there was something about the Dodgers being the only other team peavy would want to go to. Maybe now the Phillies appeared on that list since they just won the WS.
  22. WTF!!?? Does that mean that the Phillies are the 3rd team in the 3way with the Cubs and Padres? Or does that mean that the Phillies are the ones trying to get Peavy??
  23. I think getting Peavy is more important than getting a LH RF. I would much rather have Reed Johnson, Mike Fontenot, or Hoffpauir in the lineup as well as Peavy, than Abreu or Ibanez and Marquis. Just imagine our rotation. If you seriously sit down and think about it, we will go 150-12 this year with peavy. Last year when our starters went on the mound we had so much confidence.... Harden was almost a sure win every time. Dempster was ridiculous and almost a sure win. Zambrano pretty much is a sure win 1 out of every 4-5 starts. Lilly started to dominate and was almost a for sure win. Then we throw an even better pitcher in, in Peavy. Another for sure win. I'm not saying that these guys will win every time, but wow, no more "we should lose this game" thoughts. Cuz we should be the favorites to win every game. And our offense won't be any worse than last year. Probably better with Fontenot in there instead of Edmonds.
