  1. I live in DFW and watch a lot of Rangers games. IMO Byrd is solid in the outfield; not outstanding but solid. I would agree w/ anyone that says he plays an average CF. To me, he is Reed Johnson w/out the flashy web gems but also w/out the health concerns.
  2. probably not good enough to get rid of J. Jackson but I think Ellsbury right now is Fuld's ceiling. Ellsbury fills a need for CF, leadoff hitter (I know, it isn't a position) and another lefty bat in the lineup. Also, that leaves us some money in the budget to sign a backup middle infielder for 3/15. Again, Ellsbury fills those same needs for the Padres. Why would they do this? Why would they spin a guy that would be under their control and inexpensive for a few more years for someone who can't play CF, can't lead off, isn't cheap for the next few years and won't be there after 2 years? I'm not proposing to include Bradley in the deal if that is who you are talking about. As for why they would do this: probably only would happen if they like someone (or combination of someones) in our system better than Ellsbury.

  4. That would be ideal, but like you said very doubtful. W/out Bradley in the deal, do you think Colvin + J. Jackson be too much? Would Colvin + Coleman be enough?
  5. Assuming that the Red Sox and Padres are attempting an Adrian Gonzalez trade; is there anyway that the Cubs should try to get involved where it becomes a three team deal with Ellsbury coming to Chicago? Would he fit our team better than Byrd / Ankiel? Would he cost more than he is worth?
  6. I don't mean to criticize your translation b/c I couldn't have done it but this part made me laugh, especially the Solar Table Sox part.
  7. I think that would just open up a lot of potential problems between the drafting team and the school that the draftee attends. What would happen if the drafting team feels like their draftee is not getting adequate playing time or is being misused. Could the drafting team sue the school that allows a draftee to throw 200 pitches in a game and then blows out his arm?
  8. One of the best baseball books I've read recently was Elden Auker's "Sleeper Cars and Flannel Uniforms."
  9. Maybe Jeff Gordon can buy the naming rights and change it to Wrigley Stadium.
  10. I think that a coach looks at leadoff as a position while a GM doesn't (or shouldn't)
