  1. To make room for who at 2nd, Fontenot ? Aquiring Roberts would make Lou think about using De Rosa at SS for sure. If you have Ramirez at 3rb, Lee at 1st and Fukudome in RF there isn't enough playing time there for De Rosa. You would need to sit one the 3 guys i mentioned basically every 3 days to give De Rosa at bats. That ain't happening. This whole De Rosa supersub talk is to keep Theriot happy for the moment. I think De Rosa will be the SS and he should be in my opinion.
  2. A man of his wealth and wisdom should be familiar with the benefits of moving on to the younger body. If Angelos is in fact blocking this deal then i believe is pointless for AM to be there. The orioles simply aren't going anywhere if Angelos continues acting like this. That team needs to be completely rebuild. I personally feel that the rumor package of Murton Patterson and Gallagher is more than enough for Roberts. They would e getting a guy who projects as a solid # 3 starter a good ops corner outfielder in Murton and a speedy 2nb baseman and outfielder. For a team that is rebuilding that is a very good package. Their outfield could potencially be : Murton, Markakis and Scott. If Angelo's man crush for Roberts doesn't allow him to understand that this trade would help his team, that franchise will continue to suck for a long time.
  3. The latest from orioles hangout is that AM is okay with what the cubs are offering, but the deal is waiting for Angelos to sign off. They say Angelos is holding up the deal and they aren't sure he will sign it. It wouldn't surprise me at all if he doesn't aprove the deal because he has done it before. He has a serious man crush for Roberts.
  4. Fukdudome's press conference is today at 4:00 on comcast chicago.
  5. I personally feel that if the cubs could somehow get Roberts and Bedard without giving up Hill, the team becomes one of the favorites to win the NL. The key is keeping Hill though. I think the cubs have the pieces to make them consider a deal at the very least. I personally would pursue this deal hard and would be willing to give them a very good package that includes Marmol. I am thinking something like : Cubs get : Bedard, Roberts Orioles get : Pie, Marmol, Gallagher, Veal, Colvin, Cedeno My plan after this would be to play De Rosa at SS. I feel he can do it. He has a good glove, a strong arm and is a great athlete. Sign Lofton to a 1 year deal to play CF. To fill the hole left by Marmol, i would either move Dempster back to the bullpen or sign Otsuka. Roberts 2B Lofton CF Lee 1B Ramirez 3B Soriano LF Fukudome RF De Rosa SS Soto C Zambrano Bedard Lilly Hill Marquis Wood Howry Dempster/ Otsuka Hart Wuertz Eyre I don't know if the cubs have the money to make all these moves but if this somehow could get done, the cubs would have one very strong team and would be one of the favorites in the NL.
  6. This has been probably posted already but according to mlb.com the deal is believed to be for 48 million. Nice job by Hendry. That was the numbers i had in mind all along at 12 million per year. Also Fukudome is expecting his first child soon, so he won't come to chicago until next week. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20071211&content_id=2323241&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc
  7. I didn't hear the show but i guess it was him throwing around an idea. I haven't seen anything that suggest the cubs are after Bedard. I think one of the chicago beat writers said the cubs aren't in on Bedard yesterday.
  8. The padres also made an offer to Bradley and they offered arbitration to Cameron. If Bradley signs and Cameron accepts arbitration they could be out on Fukudome. With that being said is very unlikely that Cameron will take arbitration. He can catch a multiyear deal somewhere else.
  9. That is good news. The cubs will not get outbid on this. At least not by any of the rumored teams ( Padres, Rangers, White Sox, Royals ).
  10. This is a quote from Kevin Towers in a San Diego paper today : Will the Padres keep their offer to Fukudome on the table? “If it's only going to be a couple of days,” said Towers, who has said he believes the Cubs are also bidding for the right fielder/center fielder. http://www.signonsandiego.com/sports/padres/20071208-9999-1s8padres.html
  11. Dave Kaplan said on his show tonight that the cubs have told Fukudome's agent that if the decision comes down to money, no team will outbid them. Kaplan said a trusted source told him that . At this point it looks like the only thing that can keep him away from being a cub if he leaves japan, is if he really likes the west coast. We will see.
  12. Welcome to the board. You're going to hate that screen name in time. :D Great, so we now know Fukudome is a "family" guy. Well that should be enough to get Hendry to throw another 10m a year at him. Jimmy's checklist: Speedy: check Left handed hitter: check Catches the ball: check Can lead off: check Good character guy: check Folks, we got a winner! I just hope there isn't another traderumor in here. :)
  13. Dave Kaplan interviewed Fukudome's agent and he said Fukudome has all the information he needs about the level of interest in the states . He also said Fukudome and his family will go over the information during the weekend and a decision could come on monday.
