  1. This would be a good inning for a D Lee HR.
  2. I like how you think I know nothing about him. Ive seen his profile at the website for where he works. I realize people want to make money after spending a ton on a team. I was very clear about making this point in my initial post so Im not sure why you felt compelled to point this out. And actually, there area probably several ownership groups that would be passable but none of them are connected with the commissioner. And if this guys sucks, its not like he is likely going away any time soon. In fact, if he sucks thats probably because he is making so much money off the fans that theres little incentive to not suck.
  3. I like how people think Marmol is going to be a closer as if the 7th and 8th innings Marmol has been pitching isnt important. Just because he doesnt get a save, it doesnt mean Marmols role has been less important, therefore it wouldnt shock me if they left it as is. Plus, Dempster is one of Hendrys guys (that he claimed off the garbage heap). I would like to see Gallagher given a chance in the rotation as spot duty though. Id like to see another option over Hill and Marquis who have been way too eratic.
  4. Someone equal to, less than, or greater than Soto? As far as ideal trade thought processes... This is just a hypothetical. Cubs send Jones and prospect(s) (within reason) to get Winn and some cash to off-set his contract. Supposedly, Winn is avail. and plays a better CF than Jones, obviously more productive than Jones this year, can hit between Soriano and Lee, but has a bad contract that could be eased up by hopefully Jones, prospect, and some cash. But Winn hasn't even been all that good this year(.281/.333/.403) and we'd be paying him 8 million next year and 8.25 million in '09(plus he has a 10 team no-trade clause those years). I don't see how that really improves the situation. If you're taking on someone playing as marginally as Winn, you might as well let Pie or Jones try to work out of it. There's a bigger upside to Winn in CF for this year than Jones, Pie, or Pagan. Beyond the salary difference of Jones, there would have to be some salary taken by SF as well. Enough to where his '09 salary becomes doable. No, I would say there is greater upside with Pie. Pie is faster and better defensively plus in his two stints in Iowa, he had a high average both times. So he can hit and probably will but he needs to make adjustments and fight through his slump.
  5. This really bothers me. Canning is going to pay a billion dollars for the revenue stream that Cubs fans generate and because they pay so much at the outset, theyre going to want to set on a pile of money while having only a moderately high payroll. And if any of you werent aware Seligs ownership of the Brewers is stigmatized by Seligs promise to spend on payroll in return for the public funding a new stadium. Once the stadium was built they pared back payroll. They have some homegrown prospects that are yielding success now but that doesnt change the fact that Canning was part of the ownership group that broke that promise. And so now that same ownership group is going to use the commissioners office to get their hands on the money generated by Cubs fans. Cronieism sucks.
  6. Is E!SPN being shut out really a bad thing?
  7. CF, like catcher, is a defensive oriented position. That is, its more important to have a good defensive CF who is struggling than some RF who miight have better offense that is stuck out there. Jacque Jones is no CF. BTW, the only reason Jones is playing suddenly is that Hendry has given up on trying to move him. His salary is a problem. And so since Hendry cant even give him away, the only way to move him is to let him play and hell hopefully drive up some trade value since it couldnt be any lower than what it has been recently.
