  2. This season, in order to try to grow the field of participants, I’m starting this thread with over a month to go until Opening Day! The goal: Build a HR team to collect the most MLB ROUND-TRIPPERS! Pick a roster of 12 hitters. The first 11 batters must include: -- 1 batter from Group A -- 2 batters from Group B -- 3 batters from Group C -- 5 batters from Group D The 12th hitter is your Wild Card and can be any player not listed here. You don't have to pick a WC player on a 25-man roster, but you obviously risk not accruing HRs if your player is stashed in the minors. Post your first 11 selections in this thread. The deadline for posting is 5:00:00 PM Central Time on Saturday, April 1 2017. No entries will be accepted after the deadline. You must PM your Wild Card selection to me! Do not post it with your entry. It WILL NOT COUNT unless it's PM'd to me by the deadline. RULES Throughout the season, you may make 4 adds/drops to your core roster of 11 players. The following rules apply to adds/drops: » You must drop a player to add another player. A drop/add is one transaction. » You must post your transaction in the HR Derby transaction thread. The transaction becomes effective at midnight Central Time the day you post it. You will accrue the dropped player's HRs in any game started by midnight Central Time that day. You will accrue the added player's HRs for any games starting after midnight Central Ttime the next day. » No transactions between the deadline on April 1 and noon Central Time on April 8 and also after noon Central Time September 10. » If you only post an add without a drop or there's any other problem deciphering your intent, the transaction isn't finalized until it's straightened out. » You may make 2 transactions before the All-Star Game and 2 transactions after the All-Star Game. These transactions apply only to the core roster and not the WC player. It's use or lose it -- if you don't make 2 transactions before the All-Star Game, you still only get 2 transactions afterwards (no hold-over transactions). » The player added must be drawn from the same group as the player dropped. » No clones. You can't have the same player more than once. » MLB rules for stats will be followed for any games postponed, suspended, etc. » You can only change your WC player once and only at the All-Star break ... so choose carefully! » I will be providing updates roughly once a week throughout the season. If you have any scoring questions, please post them in the discussion thread or PM me. Final decisions on scoring are up to me. Winner » Anyone can enter. The winner has to be a member in good standing (in other words, not banned) at the conclusion of the season. » Tiebreaker goes to the person who posted their HR Derby team first. » You can change your HR Derby team as often as you'd like before the deadline. Just EDIT your original post instead of posting a new team. If you enter two teams, only the first team will count as your entry. Groups will be the first reply to this thread. _____________________________________________ Past HR Derby Champs 2006 - UMFan83 2007 - Wekse 2008 - The Logan 2009 - vance 2010 - TruffleShuffle 2011 - Bob Sanders 2012 - soccer10k 2013 - glavine93 2014 - sneakypower 2015 - sneakypower 2016 - PetermanRealityTour _____________________________________________ EXAMPLE ENTRY Group A: PLAYER ONE Group B: PLAYER TWO, PLAYER THREE Group C: PLAYER FOUR, PLAYER FIVE, PLAYER SIX Group D: PLAYER SEVEN, PLAYER EIGHT, PLAYER NINE, PLAYER TEN, PLAYER ELEVEN WILD CARD: PM'D TO SOUTHPAW19
  3. I knew Fowler was going to hit the market, and I knew he would get a 5-year deal. I just didn't want it to be with St. Louis Cardinals. However, once it became official, I just couldn't bring myself to hate the guy. You cannot begrudge a guy who signed a deal with the Cubs, played out the deal, declined the QO, decided the market wasn't playing out for him, came back to the Cubs on a lower money deal to "prove himself" again, won a WS, and then cashed in. He bet on himself and won. Period. Good for him. I can tell you this though. Dexter Fowler will not mean as much to that Cardinals lineup as he did with the Cubs lineup.
  4. That rule is going away, beginning next offseason. Will not apply to Davis.
  5. Since this thread is still at 106, I thought I would chime in with my thoughts. For those of you who don't know me, I'm the resident NSBBer who runs the Home Run Derby in the Events forum. Even though I didn't originate it, I took over the duties when it was close to going away several years ago. Anyway... I've been a Cubs fan since probably a short time after the 1984 season. I was 8 at the time. I'm not as long suffering as some, but I lived through 1989, 1998, 2003, 2004 (regular season collapse), 2007, 2008, and to a degree 2015. This year I turned 40, and I've probably had the greatest year of my life. My wife Nicole and I adopted our 6 year old daughter who had been in our foster care since she was 2 1/2. We rescued her from a toxic environment and have given her all the love and family we could provide. We became foster parents, because my wife has a condition that makes it hard to conceive children, and when you do, the rate of miscarriage is high. As it turned out, when things were getting closer to adoption with our 6 year old, the stress winding down must have done wonders, because we finally got the news last fall (shortly after the NLCS collapse) that we were finally pregnant. On July 28 this summer, our beautiful baby girl was born. To top it all off... the Chicago Cubs are now World Series Champions! I could tell a much longer version of this story, but maybe another time. Let's just say, I was having horrible flashbacks when the ball went off Addison's glove, and then the game tying home run. I stood in my in-laws' living room for innings eight through ten; too stressed to sit down. I really thought I was going to cry like a baby when we won. But I only had watery eyes a bit... I think the entire game/series drained me. However, looking at all the videos/stories since, it is hard to stop from crying. I only wish my wife's brother, my brother-in-law, was here to see it all. Sadly, he passed away at the age of 26 in 2010. T.J. -- we did it, bro! Cubs are the champions!

  8. I will save you some work in 2017. Wildcard - PM'd (Kyle Schwarber) from everybody LOL - While that's likely the case, that's not sound strategy.
  9. I humbly apologize for the delayed updates during the final month of the season. To make up for it, I have already put together the necessary data for the 2017 HR Derby, and will continue to update that as the final week plays out. Then I won't have anything to do over the winter, except keep track of player movement. Once March 2017 rolls around, I can roll out the new season of HRD for the new season of MLB. :D

  14. Sorry for the lack of updates. Apparently having a newborn is draining or something. I will work on this today, and by the end of the day (hopefully way before that), I will have updated standings posted.
  15. I need to put something out to the contestants to get a fair decision agreed upon. TOPIC: Derwood has a clone player. He has had two entries of Victor Martinez since mid-July. Since this has never happened before since I've been doing the Derby, I wasn't sure how to do a fair ruling. What are the thoughts of the participants for a fair way to amend this?

  21. For those couple of us who switched WC slots to Trevor Story... story over. Season-ending surgery.
  22. Sorry for the delayed post. My wife and I welcomed a baby to our family on Thursday night, and we came home from the hospital on Sunday night.
