  1. He was the main part of the propsed Jermain Dye deal at the dealine, but it fell apart. Hes been horrible this season, however, when with Cincy, he was a notorious Cub killer, and basically homered every time he stepped foot in Wrigley.
  2. Hendry should jump on him, and anyone else with the slightest amount of power.
  3. christ, is there a single available position player they havnt gottent their hands on?
  4. As far as I know, nobodys picked him up yet, and lets face it, it couldnt hurt. Morgan Ensberg seems to have done OK for himself in his short time with the Pads, so why cant the Cubs at least take a chance on Hillenbrand? I know hed be only a pinch hitter, as the only positions hes ever played are DH and 3rd, but we need all the power we can get.
  5. He was probably just trying to block the Indians and Tigers. While the Sox are already well out of it, if either of them scored Miggy, the Sox would be screwed for the next 5 years.
  6. Please oh please Hendry, get us Monroe, his .222 average and 11 homers. I bet Dusty woukld love Conine and/or Stairs. Word of advice to Hendry-Dunn would be a welcome addition to a power starved team. If you cant get him, wait it out. What we already have is much better than those 2 has beens and the one never will be. Lou has the tools to weather the Sorianoless month, he just has to use them properly, and the doesnt consist of Cedeno and Pagan in the starting linuep.
  7. Give me Myers over Will Ohman any day. I've always liked sidewinders, and wondered why Rapadas major league stint was as short as it was. However, when its comes to sidewinders, it seems that whle they are very hard to hit, if a hitter manages to get ahold of a side arm pitch, its usually a guaranteed base hit.
  8. I know the basics, the team puts the player on waivers, and other teams get a chance to claim him in a certain period before they first team is free to trade him or do whatever with them. However, is there a specific order in which other teams can place their claim? How does this work?
  9. Of those guys, Dunns the only one who would be any improvement over what we already have.
  10. IMHO, this would be a more than acceptable lineuo, especially considering the teams wer'e playing this month 1. Theriot SS 2. DeRosa 2B 3. Lee 1B 4. Ram 3B 5. Jones CF 6. Murton LF 7. Floyd RF 8. Kendall C This is a very solid lineup. If Jones or Murton falter, you have Pie or Patterson waiting in the wings. Too bad Kroeger got hurt. It could have been his chance. And for the love of God, just DFA Will Ohman already. You could almost hear a sigh of relief coming from the Mets dugout when he came in last night.
  11. Kenny Lofton would be looking pretty good right about now. My Guess is Theriot gets leadoff, with Pie coming up, and Murton and Pie sharing Lt, and Center and Rt staying about the same with Jacque and Floyd. Sorianos inconsistant production lately makes his absence a bit more palletable. As long as they dont pull a Dusty move and sign someone sorry like Bobby Kielty =.
  12. Soriano will likely require at least a 15 day DL stint. The only good thing is that there are 3 guys who would be able to fill in at leadoff, in Theriot, Fontenot, and Pie, who will likely come up if Soriano does in fact hit the DL.
  13. Sisgn him, and do it now. Hes practically begging for it. The fact of the matter is, any potential new owner who wouldnt want a pitcher the calibur of Z on his team has no buisness anywhere near a baseball team let alone owning one.
  14. They just need to go ahead and sign him. Its not like they have any other major holes to fill. The only other free agents are Kendall, Wood, Floyd, and Ward, all of whom can be either resigned for cheap, sign a cheap alternative, or be replaced within the Cubs farm system. Zs the only big money they need to spend this off season, or hopefully before. If they lose him, it will make Maddux leaving in '92 look like nothing, especially since this Cubs team finally look like a perenial contender, and Zs ireplaceable, unless they have a deal for Johan Santana or Jake Peavy pending that nobody know about.
  15. From prosportsdaily "Negotiations are on hold until the sale of the Cubs by the Tribune Company, which is contrary to Zambrano's desire. He wants to stay here, but if the Cubs don't move quickly Zambrano said he would consider playing for the Mets."
  16. I love how the '04 mission statement was to take the '03 team and make it stronger, and by '05, Zamrano and Ramirez were the only players remaining from that team, unless you count Prior and Wood as still being on the team.
  17. Hes been doing well for himslef lately. Like Izturis before him, he may not get a lot of hits, but he often comes through when it counts, plus hes raised his average from .222 to .250 since joining the team. I wouldnt mind seeing him resigned to a 1 year deal next year and have him and Soto share the catching time.
  18. Die hard Cubs fans have put up with a lot over the years, everything from poor play to poor management decisions. We finally have what looks to be the best pitcher of the era, and once again hes stated how much he wants to remain a Cub, however, states that if not given the offer, he'll head to New York. The question is, if Cubs management, no matter what the current ownership situation lets him go, and year 99 gos by without a championship do you finally give up on the team?
  19. youve just basically told us that Pathetic excuse for a pitcher Marquis stats are almost identical to Douche Glavines. Glavine has 1 more win, with equal losses, and Marquis ERA and WHIP are slightly better. The lefty factor is the thing to watch out for.
  20. am I the only one who remembers Mark Guthrie? I suppose thats a good thing.
  21. The last 2 wereprobably the worst. Not only were they worth something, but we were in it until the top of the 9th when the pen weant back to its old tricks and put em out of reach.
  22. Pie is a prototypical leadoff guy, and Soriano doesnt want to part with that spot. Too bad though. While Jones' bat is finally heating up, Pie is a far superior outfielder. He'll be back for the September call ups, and not a moment before. Maybe E-Pat to.
  23. Why is it that these 2 have quietly been 2 of the best minor league relievers in the Cubs system for 2 years now, yet Pignietello has never even made the 40 man, and Rapada got sent down after 1 batter. Meanwhile guys like Petrick, Cherry, and before that Roberto Novoa keep getting moved up and down? Get Ohman the hell out of town and give Pignietello a shot.
  24. I admit hes been bad so far, but some guys need a change of scenery, and more importantly, leagues. Ohman and Cedeno wouldnt be giving up much, as Ohman sucks and Cedenos job belongs to Theriot. Id be happier if we could get our hands on Vazquez, but I never believed that the Sox were serious about moving him.
