Because they've had two winning seasons in the past 8 years and play in a park no one can hit in? The Cubs have been dog [expletive] the past 3-4 seasons... are they a crappy team this year? The Padres underwent one of the biggest transformations this offseason. You could argue they have a better lineup than the Dodgers at this point. If they get Shields, they'll probably be better than the Cubs. I believe some of the projections metrics already have them at a game or so over the Cubs. I know either ZIPS or PECOTA did.

Weren't we the favorites for Lester for months? I won't be pissed if they sign Shields for 3 years, but I don't particularly want him either. We are the favorites based on media speculation. Once the bidding started it seemed like the Giants and Red Sox were mentioned more often as favorites than we were. Even at the start of the winter meetings when we were mentioned among the finalists with those teams I think the consensus is he was going elsewhere. It couldn't be because the Cubs FO seems to keep things close to the vest though. That was never really the case except in pessimistic Cubs fans minds. Just about everyone expected him with the Cubs. There was plenty of talk of him heading back to the Sox among national writers. I certainly remember it looking like the more likely outcome for a hot minute there.

Norris is in no way "a serious hole at C." Also exactly ONE player in their starting 8 is 30+ (he is exactly 30) and that is Matt Kemp. Please stop. You need to do your research. Quentin and Venable are 30+. Norris had 2 HRS in the 2nd half of 2014 and now you put him San Diego's huge park. His defense was so bad, GSoto started for him the playoffs against KC. Please go away. ALSO, if Norris is a "serious hole at C", we are screwed. Going by BR, Norris had a better oWAR year than Welly, David Ross and Montero did last year combined (3.1 to 3.2) and did it playing half his games in Oakland.

Butters was trolling me (and just about everyone else here) after I chastised CT for saying "Cubbies" I chastised myself internally after I posted it. It's been a long week. EDIT: Wow I went back to see where you did that and I totally missed the bold. I thought you were yelling die because I was being negative about Shields, haha.
