  1. Ain't that the truth. Sigh. Nothing about them getting playing time. And considered bringing up Pie? Have they learned nothing from rushing Corey?
  2. 34 scattered starts isn't even close to being enough time to fully evaluate what a player can do in the big leagues. But if this is just for them to get their swings back, it's both at the cost of Murton and it shows that he has no faith in the coaching staff. And yet, Sarge is the main hitting instructor for the 2nd year in a row. Has there been any change? Barely. Gene Clines works with a few hitters, but Sarge is basically doing the same thing as he was doing last year. Dusty is still there. If they have continually failed, why do they still have their jobs? Unbelievable. They may not in the very near future. Without singling people out, this team has failed miserably. Dusty might be paying for it with his job. One can hope, but do you think Hendry would can Dusty without giving up on the season? My gut feeling is no. If Hendry were to give up on the season, it would only make sense for Dubois and Patterson to start. At least on the surface, this move looks like the opposite, especially since a guy like Murton is being called up to sit on the bench instead of someone like Hubbard. I'm worried.
  3. That pic is from http://www.ourcubs.com/ , I believe. There are some great pics there.

  5. I'd just have to believe if Dusty has been going against Jim's desire for this long, something would have already been done. That leads me to think that they're close to seeing eye to eye. I'm also quite worried as to what this will do to their (especially Murton's) trade value. I think that even had Jim wanted to can Dusty over philosophical differences before, he couldn't justify eating Dusty's contract while the team was still in contention, and with injuries as an excuse. Now the team is as healthy as they have been all year, and are playing the worst ball of Dusty's tenure. Now there is more impetus to can him. But if there's a big philosophical difference, why is Macias still on the roster? Why is Cedeno back up when he had to have known either way that he wasn't going to start. Jim is the one with the power. Depending on what else happens in the next couple of days, I'm this close to losing all faith in Hendry.
  6. and tell me how you know they'll waste away on the bench? this could be a precursor to dusty's firing, which would lead to young players actually having a chance to play. We'll see what happens, but how would this indicate Dusty being fired? If Baker was going out, Dubois would stay and both Macias and Perez would sit or be released. If that doesn't happen, this is almost like the opposite. Dubois wasn't performing. He got his shot for nearly a month and did nothing. I don't think Doobie had a future as a starter on the Cubs, regardless. I don't think he was ever given a full chance, which does nothing but hurt the Cubs and does a real disservice to Hendry. Not only do they not know what if he'll be able to contribute next year, they killed his trade value.

  9. If Hendry had a different way of doing things, they probably would have already been done. Neither Murton or Greenberg are going to be starting, I'd assume. This doesn't make any sense at all. I'll wait to hear what Jim says, but I sense disaster. I don't like this one bit. I'm with you. I hope I'm wrong but I see the kids getting hurt in this one. No way Hendry is that daft when it comes to player development...something is up, big time. He did it to Cedeno. Either both agreed that Ronny would sit on the bench or at the very minimum, he knew Dusty wasn't going to start him. But that doesn't matter. Just by calling him up hurt him.

At the minimum, Hendry absolutely has to know what he has for next season. Instead of seeing what he has in Patterson, Dubois, and Cedeno, the veterans are playing. And now he's going to hurt two other players by making the waste away on the bench? Simply amazing.

  12. So is it that they've lost faith in Gene Clines to work with him? Is it just because of the fans?
  13. Wow. I'd love to drive down to see him pitch if I could.
  14. Nathan, Luis Montanez has already spent 4 full seasons in A ball. As someone new to the organization, is there anything about Luis that signals to you that he's feeling the pressure of his past struggles after being picked so high in the draft or do his daily performances make him look like most 23-year-olds who are just starting to figure it out? Thanks for your time.
  15. Awesome. Thanks for the news. And since I haven't done so already, welcome to the board!
  16. Huh. Makes sense. If pepper was used to entertain the crowd, they would obviously do it close to the stands and pepper at a good speed. I guess I never thought of the risk. And there's not much point in advanced players doing it by themselves since it's not really a useful activity to practice skills. Also, the pepper is used in other sports. I used to do it every day in volleyball practice.
  17. That's interesting. In one of the books I read for by Baseball lit class (can't remember which), a character proposed putting on a pepper routine to entertain the fans. This was set in the early 20th century, I believe. I'm not sure how successful that would be, but I'd certainly be interested to hear why it was banned. Oh, and I do recall playing pepper when I was in little league.
  18. How wrong. I wasn't paying much attention, but Dusty already gave the lineup during the pregame show before game 1. I'm not sure if it's exactly the same as yesterday's, but Neifi and Macias are batting at the top.
  19. Before tomorrow's first game, Brian Jordan will be placed on the DL and Jeff Francouer will be called up. He won't start against the Cubs, though. Also, Josh Beckett will miss his start against the Cubs this weekend because of a strained left oblique muscle.
  20. So I leave during a blowout in Kane County only to just miss a Harvey HR and tonight I watch a blowout in Boise and the video gives out just before Hagerty pitched? Wonderful luck on my part. Not that I necessarily would've wanted to see him give up a run on two walks, but still.
  21. 5 IP, 5 hits, 3 earned, 2 walks, 6 strikeouts. Piggy gave up 2 runs on 2 hits and 2 walks in his inning in relief. Iowa lost 5-0.
  22. Ugh. I shouldn't be allowed to watch minor league games. First the Chiefs blowout, and now this. Hawks down 15-5 in the middle of the 6th.
  23. Yeesh. Talk about bad defense. Mota gets another DP ball and this time throws it into right field. Then Taylor gets a ground ball with men on first and second, looks at the runner at second, who's half-way between second and third, and throws nearly high to first. Must've forgotten that there was a runner at first. And my goodness Hunton is a big guy.
  24. Downs gives up a leadoff walk, bunt single, strike out, walk, and a 2-run single to surrender the lead. A basehit to right follows and the Hawks trail 4-3 with just one out. Downs leaves before getting out of the inning. I didn't see some of the hits, but he was throwing a TON of curve balls tonight. Probably just wanted to work on it. Hunton comes in and gives up an RBI single through his legs on the first pitch. Yeesh. Slow grounder to Mota and he drops the ball while trying to throw to second for the 2nd out (wouldn't have had a DP). That's his 2nd error of the night. Hunton gets a force at home on a grounder but then gives up a 3-run double on a hanging slider. Hawks down 8-3 in the 4th. And he gives up a 2-run HR on the first pitch. 10-3. All of these runs are unearned.
  25. Coats nearly makes a great play but the first base ump said the throw was wide. Jaxx trail 3-2. Hawks up 1-0 in the bottom of the first. Now 2-0 after a wild pitch. Taylor makes it 3-0 with an RBI single to left. According to the announcer, pitching coach Hank Azaria (at least that's how I heard it) said Downs would throw more curves tonight. flyout, P3, K in the 2nd for Downsy. Downs gives up a pair of singles with 1-out in the 3rd. He got the next batter to ground into what should have been an easy inning-ending DP but the relay from (Mota?) went approx. 40 feet before bouncing. Should be an unearned run because the runner was at 2nd. 3-1, middle 3. Bacon Ks and the Jaxx lose 4-2. Sing juuuust missed a HR in the 9th that would've tied it up.
