  1. Another loss the way the Cubs bully is right now. I'd still glady take my chances with a 5-run lead after 6 for the 'pen to protect.
  2. WOW! Sing makes the catch with a runner at third and throws a strike to the plate. Casey gets run over but hangs on and they're still tied!
  3. Wuertz isn't going to do well without his slider. And he's not going to have much of a slider in this wind.
  4. And Carlos has continually said that he wants Dusty to let him throw 130-140 pitches on occasion. Dusty wouldn't have a job if he let that happen. The reason pitchers used to throw so many pitches is that the ones who couldn't last that long would be ruined early from injury. What could possibly be gained by letting a pitcher throw 120 pitches when he's not pitching well and has a 5-run lead? There's quite a lot that can be lost if that's done with regularity.
  5. I believe Jon posted early in the thread that Murton will get one more start over the weekend, and Hollandsworth will get the other. That is correct. Dusty said he'd have to see which lefty isn't as good against left-handers, but I'd imagine Murton will be in the lineup tomorrow night against Olsen without looking up their nubmers. As expected, Dusty had good things to say about Hollandsworth. Don't expect Todd to sit much.
  6. He's not a tiny kid, he's a big young kid, he can handle it. 120 pitches really isn't that much. I think pitchers have become coddled too much over the years. He saved the pen (do you really want to see them guard a 5 run lead?). Now it will go Wuertz, dempster if needed. 120 isn't much? And in a relative blowout? Most major league pitchers do not throw 120 pitches with regularity. Most major league managers would not have someone throw 120 pitches with regularity. Carlos hasn't had his 2-seam fastball for over a month and has struggled significantly with control. You don't need to overwork someone when they're trying to get a pitch back.
  7. Carlos 1, hurricane 0. Did Carlos really need to throw 120 pitches?
  8. Come on, Layne. Why did you not call that?
  9. 104 pitches with a comfortable lead... Yeesh.
  10. I think it's blatantly obvious that this was forced on him from above. Especially because Murton is starting 2 out of the first 3 games. I got no problem with that too. But no way Dusty would play him 2/3 unless Hendry didn't have him by his ballsac. No way? I'm not so sure. Dubois might have very well have started the two games that Murton is going to start. And we'll have to see what Cedeno does the rest of this series. I'm certainly not getting my hopes up about it until I see this against right handed starters.
  11. Ron answering Tim's question on Atlee: He's looked okay when under control and very effective in relief when he hasn't walked anyone so far. He certainly has the potential to be an effective relief pitcher. By the way, if anyone has not seen a picture of Atlee, take a look at the size of his legs. Oh, and in response to Raisin's question, Ryu really enjoys hitting. Searles does a bit, too.
  12. Willis' ERA just went up an even 0.50 tonight.
  13. Hmm. Thanks for pointing that out. I'll have to look for it. EDIT: Interesting design. Was there anything else on the shirt? I just caught a quick glimpse. It had "EL TORO" in a weird red font above the standard Cubs logo. There may have been some writing below that. Oh man. The wind just robbed Murton of a 3-run bomb.
  14. Very nice AB by Ronny to knock Willis out of the game.
  15. Welcome back, Matt Creighton! HR to left-center!
  16. Hmm. Thanks for pointing that out. I'll have to look for it. EDIT: Interesting design.
  17. Burnitz trying to see if he can hit it higher each time? Nice double.
  18. Mikey sure took his Flintstones vitamins this morning.
  19. bullpen help? I don't think his pitches could go 50 feet with throws like that. ;) And I'd like to see a more consistent arm slot first.
  20. Man. Ronny had plenty of time on that one.
  21. In case you missed it, Murton will get one more start this weekend (I'd assume tomorrow). Hollandsworth will get the other one. Greenberg will not be in the starting lineup, however.
  22. And the Cubs continue to completely own Willis in Florida while not having a chance against him at Wrigley.
  23. Nice hit and Murton gets on his horse and scores easily!
