  1. I don't know if we're going to be able to afford both, the tribsters aren't magically just going to give Hendry all the $$$ he wants to go out and get top-notch free-agents. With the Cubs luck we'll be lucky if we get the big bat or the starter.
  2. The Cubs have given up the eighth most runs in the NL (which puts us right in the middle of the pack), tenth most in the ML. The Cubs are also DEAD LAST in runs scored in the ML by 31 runs (35 in just the NL). While both are a problem, we need a bat more than pitching. The pitching staff hasn't been horrible considering that 33 of the 86 starts have been made by players will little to no experience. Factor in the 8 combined by Prior and Wood and 8 more by Gopher Ball this isn't too bad. Marshall will have a full year under his belt next year. Marmol is getting starts as well and will be more experienced. Hopefully Guzman and Hill can get a few more starts so we can see if they can be relied upon next year as well. Prior has been looking better even though his record doesn't reflect this. The offense on the other hand has been downright pathetic. That's all there really is to say about it. The Cubs are 15th in the NL in ERA, lead the the league in walks allowed and HR allowed, our hitting is atrocious but you have to think that if all those numbers were a little better we would be in better shape. I think it's safe to say that we are both right the hitting is horrendous and the pitching isn't that good.
  3. "Agreed. If given a gun-to-the-head decision though, I'd take a big bat." You would take a bat considering that this rotation looks like a huge uncertainty next season. In my opinion hitting can come and a go but if your pitching is good enough you can get by with decent hitting. This team needs help at just about every facet of the organization (hitting, pitching, defense, coaching, scouting, front office people, etc) but I think it all starts with pitching or the lack thereof that the Cubs possess.
  4. I personally think Hendry's #1 priority should be to go after another top of line starter like Zito or Schmidt. As we all know pitching and defense is what wins championships. Our 2007 rotation doesn't look too promising if you consider that Maddux and Wood probably won't be here, also Marshall and Marmol are still wildcards, and that Prior is injury prone (He's had 5 DL stints in 4 season in the bigs). The only certainty is Big Z, so with that being said we have to get a top of the line starter even if we must overpay for him. What do you guys think?[/img]
  5. C-Joe Mauer 1B Derrek Lee 2B-Dan Uggla (I just love pronouncing his last name) SS-Jose Reyes 3B-ARam/David Wright RF-Jeff Francouer CF-Grady Sizemore LF-Carl Crawford SP-Big Z RP-Francisco Rodriguez
  6. Is it me or does he always seem to be in an 0-2 hole. It's hard to be an effective hitter when you're constantly down 0-2 in the count. Here's a typical Juan Pierre at-bat. Pitch 1: Strike Looking Pitch 2: Strike Looking Pitch 3: Ball Pitch 4: Foul Ball to the left side Pitch 5: Weak grounder to SS or 2B
  7. mid-july
  8. Do you guys think a complete overhaul of this franchise is in order. I mean lets face it the Cubs arent going to win anything with this bunch and maybe it would be a good idea to get rid of a lot of high salary players and start from the bottom up.
