  1. I saved probably 10-15 of the old SI's with MJ on the cover. I've done nothing to protect them, and I doubt they'll ever be worth much, but they're there. Will have to get this one too.

  3. Anybody else laugh at the guy on Anaheim that just fell on his face randomly while waiting for the faceoff?
  4. It's just a little weird to become complacent with a 1 goal lead. Oh well.
  5. Not NHL, but still seemed like the best place for this. http://deadspin.com/5983913/disgruntled-goalie-scores-on-his-own-net-flips-off-coaches-skates-off-the-ice-forever
  6. @PWSullivan Source says Big Z may sign in Japan or Taiwan if he can't get major league deal. #Cra-Z

  8. I'll accept nothing less than a regulation loss free season.
  9. Foley has gotten me laugh several times recently. I forget the exact play, the Hawks had the puck in the Coyotes zone and the puck kinda squirted away, and Foley just deadpans..."oops". I dunno, struck me funny at the moment.

  11. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/basketball/bulls/chi-chicago-bulls-toronto-raptors-trade-20130207,0,1586359.story Sounds unlikely because of Booz's contract though. Isn't Nate Robinson a slighty better scoring/slightly worse defending verision of John Lucas? I'd say Nate is a much better scorer. But also he's making less than JL3, so I'm sure it's part of making the money work.
  12. Bears right in the middle of the strength of schedule list for 2013. Easiest in the division though. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000137115/article/2013-nfl-strength-of-schedule-released?campaign=Twitter_news
  13. Oh, yeah I actually forgot that. Saw the image posted on another site.

  15. The idea isn't looking at one year's worth of WAR. The idea is that those were the top 25 pitchers from seven years ago. How many had seven years of production you'd be happy paying 7/$175 for since that time? Pick any year as your starting point and count seven years forward from that one. You'll find damn few pitchers (who are eligible/nearly eligible to sign a FA contract) that will be worth 7/$175. And there's basically no way to pick out the ones who are in advance. In order to be worth considering for that kind of contract, a pitcher probably has to have at least three seasons (preferably more) of elite production already. Then you're projecting seven more years of elite production on top of that. Just how many pitchers over the past 20-30 years can you think of with a ten+ year stretch of dominance? I'll start you off: Clemens, Maddux, Unit. Theo faced this decision when he was with Boston and he made the right call. He could have given Pedro the contract he got from the Mets, but he held off and the Mets got stuck paying for nothing after the first couple years. Then the Mets got burned again with Johan. Let's not be the Mets. Playing devil's advocate, because I agree with you about paying pitchers. But I don't think Felix is getting this deal based on one good year. More like the last 4-5 years. The data is probably harder to come across, but I wonder if the list of the top WAR pitchers from 2004-2006 under say, age 28, would look very different than your list.
  16. Man that game sucked last night. No hat trick for Kane? [expletive] that!
  17. Most points in Bulls/Thibs history. Bad night, banged up bigs, and playing in Denver. One of those you just have to forget about.
  18. I'm sure this totally means something. http://i.imgur.com/aGbTbQS.png?1
  19. i didn't say anything about being the highest paid. joe flacco played better than any other quarterback in the playoffs, he had a stupid TD/INT ratio. how often does an average qb do that? Well by TD/INT ratio he was the 12th QB. (11th if you take out Kolb) Just ahead of NFL great, Matt Shaub. http://www.sportingcharts.com/nfl/stats/touchdown-to-interception-ratio/2012/ and yet flacco is the one with the 11-0 ratio in the playoffs. i ask again, when is the last time an average qb went off like that in the playoffs? Eli Manning had a 9-1 ratio last year and a 6-1 ratio in '07. He's also a pretty mediocre/good-but-not-great regular season QB.

His highest QB rating in a season is 93. He's nowhere near the Rodgers/Brees/Brady's of the world. Romo's had a 100+ season. Flacco is a good QB that had a awesome playoffs.

  22. Emery will be in goal tonight.
  23. There was a whole lot of debate about just how good Joe Flacco was prior to the playoffs. But now all of a sudden he's gonna be the highest paid QB. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy.
  24. Still talking about PED's and affecting baseball conversation. Talking about Castro now. Spiegel asking about his numbers at various positions in the lineup. Hoyer talking about how lineup spots can get in guy's heads, but that year over year, lineup spots don't really make a difference. Envisions him getting on base more, and more power. Hoyer's definition of a "prospect": Combination of scouting and numbers. Certain physical skills. Back to Castro, he's younger than most of the guys on the top 100 list, but has 3 years of major league experience. End of interview.
