  1. Steve Vento sent to Boise Todd Blackford sent to Daytona Jay Jackson activated from DL for Tennessee
  2. Bradley doesn't want to be a Cub? Is that why he sat around this offseason waiting until the Cubs freed up money to sign? Where did that quote come from? I didn't see it as I backtracked through this thread.
  3. doesnt look very fast either. wasnt even close to making it after hitting a slow double play ball to second Jim Hendry was just interviewed - he has tickets to all of the College World Series games in Omaha. He seems excited about LeMahieu, but I don't see it. Assume he hits .300 as a RH 2B. He has no power and little speed - what are they hoping he develops? I just watched him try to turn the DP - footwork looked good, but he threw a sinker in the dirt at 1B. Thanks - I hadn't seen that. Makes sense! They think he'll develop more power. I don't know if that will happen, but that's what I've heard. I hope so. There had to be players available with that pick who have already displayed power in college - maybe a RF or corner infielder. The Cubs didn't draft many power hitters this draft (at least in the top 15 rounds) - I guess they realize they can just sign major league free agents with power.
  4. Soto has no options remaining and would definitely be claimed.
  5. Pedro Martinez signed? Trade for Brad Hawpe? (http://cubsrumorsandnews.blogspot.com/)
  6. My guess would be that the Cubs have sent Carlos Marmol to Iowa to work on his control. According to Arizona Phil, he still has one option remaining, but would need to clear revocable waivers first (Neal Cotts did it last month). http://thecubreporter.com/site/cubs-option-years I could also see the Cubs returning (or trading for & sending down) David Patton. Some players at Iowa who deserve a callup include Kevin Hart (amazing over the last month & did not pitch in today's double header), Blake Parker, Jake Fox, Matt Camp, Bobby Scales, J.R. Mathes, Jeff Stevens, and Neal Cotts. John Gaub at Tennessee could also get a look soon. I don't see anyone who will be our savior in the hitting department - we'd need a trade for that. I'll trade Jim Hendry's off-season for just about any other GM's (and I'm a Hendry fan). P.S. Jose Ceda hasn't pitched yet this year. Maybe there was an understanding that Ceda was hurt when we traded him (it seemed like we got screwed on that deal at the time).

  8. Doug Deeds sent to Tennessee to make room for Bobby Scales.
  9. Just how the Cubs scouted football players Kaepernick and Cook. Cook is expected to sign soon and had a good work out in front of Rolando Pino a few weeks ago. Kaepernick will be a much harder sign but was a good HS pitcher. They're going to have a few scouts watch him throw in a week or so. Thank you!
  10. Credit goes to Tony Thomas for finding this. Seems as though signings should have its own topic. Maybe a mod could make this first post into a list of draftees as they sign? http://www.langleyblaze.com/web1/index.php
  11. Everyone probably knows this already, but I'm watching the LSU/Virginia game on ESPN and the announcers just explained that our 2nd round pick LeMahieu started as their SS this year, but due to his weak arm and poor range, he was switched to 2B. I'm not sure that screams 2nd rounder to me! He made a nice diving stab at a ball up the middle. It bounced off his glove and as it rolled away, he lunged and grabbed it bare-handed, then threw the runner out at 1B with a weak throw from his knees.
  12. Never mind - they said on TV that Freel will be headed to Iowa in a day or two for a couple rehab games.
  13. I'm not sure this game will start on time. We had rain last night and it's raining quite hard now. The radar looks like it should rain right up to game time (maybe longer). Wet field - fragile starting pitcher - bad combo for our struggling Cubs.
  14. I would have expected him to play a couple games in the minors before being activated - I wonder why he's skipping the rehab assignment. It's not like he's a major star - Aaron Miles did it last week.
  15. But more importantly, they missed out on a Ping. Word is they were trying to sign his twin brother Pong as well.
  16. Here's a feel-good story about former Cub Clay Rapada. It's a good read. http://hamptonroads.com/2009/06/chesapeake-native-rapada-eager-seize-next-opportunity
  17. Maybe one of you with a scout.com membership could summarize what was said in this article? It mentions the Cubs later round draft picks who are unlikely to sign, but are intriguing. Thanks!!! http://orioles.scout.com/a.z?s=251&p=2&c=871971&ssf=1&RequestedURL=http%3a%2f%2forioles.scout.com%2fa.z%3fs%3d251%26p%3d2%26c%3d871971

  19. John-Ford Griffin had 4 hits today and is batting .300 with Iowa (.361 over the past 10 days). Neal Cotts and Greg Reinhard with a scoreless inning pitched each. Robinson Chirinos with another nice day - 3 hits (1 HR). Jovan Rosa with 2 hits (1 HR).
  20. Iowa C Mark Johnson placed on DL.
