Here is BA's take: I tend to agree that Archer seems to have the highest upside since he has two solid pitches, but is working on improving his changeup and is still trying to command his pitches and improve his control. If everything works out, I'd say he could be a #1 starter some day.

Geovany Soto kills left-handed pitching. Steve Clevenger kills right-handed pitching. I'd like to see that tandem sooner rather than later. He could go in the Rule 5 Draft though. Just saying. What? Like a platoon with one of the best catchers in baseball? I was very careful not to say platoon. Obviously Soto gets the majority of the ABs but giving Soto a day off against righties that he hasn't hit against seems like good strategy to me. Sitting a guy because he's 2-15 against a particular pitcher is a bad idea. You run into all kinds of small sample size issues there. Now, if you are up against a pitcher who murders right handed batters but is a cupcake versus lefties (say, Matt Clement in his prime), then it would be a good idea to time Soto's rest days for those pitchers. But I think we're 98% in agreement here. :) Fair enough. :)

No word in the newspapers/websites on why they were DL'd - my guess is it was just a way to get some other guys on the roster for postseason play.

I think Guyer and Smith will be on a lot of people's top 30 lists this offseason, with Guyer slightly higher than Smith. For me, both will be a little lower in the rankings due to age, but they also suffer a bit from lack of consistency over the years. Guyer might be around 25ish and Smith 30ish. -

So I'm confused - I thought we had specific positions that we had to send to the AFL. We're sending 4 pitchers, 2 3B, and an OF? Is Vitters playing 1B or Flaherty playing 2B? They can't be expected to share the position right? IMO, Muyco is a poor choice and will be crushed in AZ - has he improved somehow recently and I didn't know it? Strange not to see more bubble players to be protected on the 40-man roster on this list. I think only Smit is a real possibility. Obviously Flaherty can play shortstop and second base too. Muyco is a potential 40-man roster crunch bubble guy too. Whoops! I completely forgot about SS - Duh!
