  1. Well, vertigo is no joke, I can attest.

I don't envy Stan right now. But if he goes LTIR can't they get his money off the cap for the rest of the year like they did with Kane a few years ago?

Yes but the complication happens next season when they have to get back under the cap. The other part is that without Crawford, who can they get that will actually be enough to get them into the playoffs? Or, should they rebuild on the fly and angle for that lottery pick. It's tough for the Hawks to break up the core for a variety of reasons but there's an old saying about trading a guy a year too early vs. too late.

Trading Seabrook has been discussed. What about Keith? He's still the Hawks best defenseman and a future HOF but if they are thinking about an overhaul he'd likely garner a lot of interest. I doubt they'd actually do it but they don't have a lot of guys that they could trade without it actually hurting.

I don't think it's worth angling for a high draft pick. They wouldn't get that high, and picking 10th most years isn't much different than picking 20th.

But yeah the back end seems to be where they could get decent value in return without breaking up the team completely. Problem is the cost of a team taking on a Seabrook or Keith contract would probably limit how much we would get back.

I don't like these bye weeks. Too long without hockey.

  2. So, not much interest in the Hawks lately eh?

Seabrook scratch tonight may have been necessary, but shines a light on his issues. Wouldn't it just have been better to quietly shop the guy? Or is there no chance someone would take his contract?

  3. I never met Fred and never really interacted with him in too meaningful of a way here. Still, ever since I heard Len's words last night, I just have a nagging sadness that comes over me for a few minutes at a time.

Like so many of us I appreciate the dedication he had to this site and the team. The stories shared by everyone here show his dedication ran a lot deeper than that. Bums me out to no end that he won't see this season play out.

Deepest condolences to his family and all here who knew him. He is already deeply missed.

  4. Hall for Larsson is easily worse

    Not even close.

No, I agree with Sneaky. And there's been some reporting that other teams had no idea Hall was available and are actually pissed at Edmonton because they would have happily offered far more than Adam Larsson.

The Subban trade isn't great for Montreal, but they're still getting back a stud d-man. Yes, he's older. But Therrien apparently had issues with PK and they couldn't let him run the entire ship.
