  1. Yeah, I find this sad more than anything. Sad that he's potentially not pitching anymore, but more sad that this is a man with apparently less emotional maturity than the children he has. And I'm sad that our pitching rotation will be Matt Garza, Ryan Dempster, Randy Wells, Rodrigo Lopez, and Casey Coleman. At this point, who cares? No kidding. The recent wins have been fun, but I'm not going to lose any sleep over this season. That said, it creates an unfortunate hole in the rotation next season. Granted, this year might have just been an indicator of how he was going to be next year (or worse), but it does place a pretty big strain on the rotation. I reeeeeeeeeeallllly hope they take a good long look at signing Wilson, and I reeeeeeeeeeeealllllly hope Cashner is able to contribute to the rotation, too (and McNutt, if needed).
  2. What a bizarre response. Why? The fact that if he actually retires, rids Hendry and the Cubs of his contract, and the sideshow that Z brings at times has to thrill the hell out of him. Yea Z will need to be replaced but a boatload of money just possibly opened up for that replacement. Well yeah, I understand there are benefits to Z retiring. That doesn't make it any less weird to have Hendry acknowledge a player's emotional outburst(especially Zambrano, and especially 2nd hand like this was) like it was a reasoned career decision. Yeah, but he's not going to rant and rave about it or tear him down. Some GM's do, but most are going to take the "diplomatic" route, and that's always been Hendry's M.O..
  3. Im assuming this was said with the biggest [expletive] smile on Hendrys face ever. I seriously doubt that, since ultimately this reflects very poorly on him, too. I dont think it will reflect on Hendry at all. Almost everybody in the media and such think Z is a headcase and such, so they will all give Hendry a reprieve that Z was just a lost cause, and has a mental problem. All the blame will reflect on Z That wasn't the case with Bradley, and it won't be the case here. I guarantee people will be wondering why the team invested so much in someone like this. Right or wrong as those arguments are, it's not like this came out of nowhere. It's very easy to blame Hendry in this mess, and people will.

  6. Whatever they say isn't going to make things any worse at this point. They say some idiotic stuff, but hard not to when they are continually fed this type of crap on a silver platter. It's hard not to? Really? These guys were/are tripping all over themselves to get to their computers to type whatever racist, sensationalist swill they will spew forth on the issue. They love it. It may be hard not to comment on a story like this at all, but it's not difficult to not get off on using it to instigate. Yeah, it's not like I'm expecting people to not talk about it. I'd just prefer a less meatball, sensational/hysterical approach.

  8. Because they're idiots who don't offer any kind of insight or thought out analysis. Zambrano's throwing a tantrum and it's ridiculous, but it's not like Kapman and co. are going to have anything intelligent to say about it.
  9. The only reason Todd is worth a damn: http://dugout.progressiveboink.com/archive/dugout2-05-05.htm Man, I miss The Dugout.
  10. STOP BEING SO IRONIC.
  11. And still we have the disconnect where people seemingly cannot grasp that the owners can both make changes to Wrigley AND the team. At the same time! I know it's difficult to understand, but it's not an either/or situation. That said, I'm only for getting rid of the troughs if they build more bathrooms or expand the current ones. They're too few and far between/small in Wrigley already, and going to nothing urinals and stalls without other changes to the restroom situation is going to make the wait to use them ridiculous.
  12. Thanks for the list. I've been rooting/praying that the Cubs end up with Hahn replacing Hendry next year.
  13. erik and A New Era have weighed in...can davearm, Ballgame64, and Benchwarmer be far behind?
  14. You don't understand irony, amongst many, many other things.
  15. I dunno, "I'm having a tough year, but despite this, I am glad I can still contribute in some ways." AKA something a professional athlete is going to say maybe .00001% of the time. He just needs to watch Bull Durham. Crash Davis gives sage advice on how to deal w/ the media; simply give canned, vanilla responses. You mean like Soriano did?

  17. Do you categorize every pitcher that's ever intentionally hit a batter a lunatic? This is such a terrible argument I'm half tempted to delete your post and ask you to try again. It's the davearm2 specialty.
  18. I definitely hope the Cubs don't even consider something like that, but I do hope they pencil in Campana for the roster. Even if he has a .550 OPS next season (it's .654 so far this year but that might be a little inflated), he's one of the few players in the league who can be valuable on a bench for his defense/speed alone. Sure, he potentially has a role he can play. It's just a pet peeve of mine how worked up certain segments of the fanbase get over guys like him.
  19. Soooooooooo many meatballs are going to be demanding Campana gets the starting job in RF so he can lead off next season.
  20. Yeah, it sucked when Jordan was dominating, too.
  21. TOLERANCE RALLIES, SON.
