  1. factoring SB-CS (very rough), 15 extra bases, his SLG goes up to a still below league average .408. If you factor it in around league wide, he would still be well below average SLG-wise.
  2. already went through this. he has 1 extra steal in close and late situations, 2 fewer CS. it's not like reyes is a bum on the bases. he beats the break-even point of 77.
  3. i don't know what you mean here. are you saying we shouldn't try upgrade at short at all? THERE IS NO POSSIBLE UPGRADE :!: :!: Theriot hits fields and runs the bases at a good clip, no need to upgrade. he doesn't do that though. he does all of those things at a very average clip (except steal bases which he is above average at). what about getting on base. 11 out of 27 for SS i already pointed that out a few posts ago. he's above average at getting on base (.015 above NL average for SS) and well below average at hitting for power (.045 below NL average for SS). it's pretty much a wash. OBP is more important for sure. When he hits a single there's a good chance he steals second making it a double. he has 19 steals this year. not 50 like reyes where it's legitimately a good chance he actually turns a single into a double. OBP is more important, but you're putting too much emphasis on it and de-valuing power almost completely. it's ridiculous.

  7. that wasn't the question.
  8. you seem to forget SB and fielding. and don't give me the argument on his range it's very good and his arm is definitely average. he's an average fielder despite your efforts to argue otherwise. he's tied for 4th in SB among shorstops. Hanley Ramirez is the only "bad" base-stealer ahead of him (below 77 percent success rate). 19 stolen bases don't really mean much. They've come in meaningful times. unlike Reyes who will steal just to up his numbers. that is honestly one of the worst arguments i've ever heard. theriot has 4 stolen bases in close and late situations (0 CS), Reyes has 3 (2 CS). theriot is better, but the difference is pretty much negligible.
  9. If he's well below average at hitting for power, then he's also well above average at getting on base, not slightly above average. He's top ten in OBP among shortstops, and bottom ten in SLG. i'm looking at averages for his position, not his rankings among his contemporaries. his obp is .016 above average, his SLG is .045 below average.

  11. theriot is slightly above average at getting on base and well below average at hitting for power for shortstops. he's pretty much the definition of average at this point.
  12. And I thought I'd seen EVERY ridiculous comment posted. the 2nd half was sarcasm first half is still pretty insane
  13. I for one, would like for Marmol's arm to not fall off. Then throw in Howry. There's one lefty bat in that inning, and he didn't even get him. Rollins is noticeably worse against lefties than he is against righties.
  14. hahaha lie Not really. You really think he is on par with Pujols like all announcers make him out to be? no announcer makes him out to be like pujols. no announcer makes ANYONE out to be like pujols.
  15. well this cubs season is certainly a tale told by an idiot.
  16. i disagree. derosa probably is a little bit. lee obviously is, but he finally started hitting for power, so hopefully the dip in average that he's due to suffer will be mitigated a little bit. fontenot has sucked for a solid month. i doubt cedeno is a 400 OPS guy or whatever crappy line he has right now. jones and murton are well below expectations. floyd is probably below or at expectations. kendall obviously has been below career norms so far. zambrano is crazy good right now, and obviously he's not going to allow 4.5 H/9 the rest of the season (like he did this month), but he'll still be very good the rest of the way in all likelihood. marquis...bleh, he's been bad for a while, so I don't think he's overachieving, necessarily. Lilly might be overachieving a little bit, but he's not way off the mark. Hill has been up and down, pretty much right on expectations i think. Marshall is the only one that might be due for a significant regression, but it's not like he's getting by on an unusually low babip or an abnormally high LOB% or something like that.
  17. i don't see how ramirez is playing over his true level. his average is up a tiny bit (maybe), but his ISOD and ISOP are both either at similar levels or lower than previous career norms.
  18. he overthrew the cut-off man once. on a basehit to right he also sort of hesitated before throwing the ball, but made a good throw and nothing bad came of it.
  19. That's a stellar idea. Soriano Church Lee Ramirez Hermida DeRosa Theriot/Cedeno Kendall(ideally Soto) I'd swap Church and Hermida, but yeah. I love the idea of acquiring Hermida; is there any chance he's actually available?
  20. we only suck against crappy lefties...right? go cubs!
  21. a 754 OPS from our "power hitting" corner OF is pretty much unacceptable.
  22. the padres are trying really hard to lose in this one. 12-8 now. Stauffer can't make it out of the 4th.
  23. Same can be asked for Cedeno No it can't. Where is he gonna play? 2nd over DeRosa/Fontenot? SS over Theriot? 3rd over Rammy  The guys in front of him right now are hot. Theriot's getting on base at a ridiculous pace lately. Murton on the other hand should get some playing time here although in Murton's AB last night, he looked pretty damn bad. Fontenot has been terrible for about a month now, so he should be behind Cedeno for the time being. There's no reason to call Cedeno up and let him ride on the bench. He hasn't shown the power or patience to be a bench option at the major league level. He's not a gifted base runner (though he has good speed), and he isn't exceptional defensively. The only reason you call him up is to see if he actually learned anything when he went back to the minors. Using him sporadically off the bench tells you nothing about any progress he made. and let's stop basing anything on one at-bat, please. saying he looked terrible in his one AB last night after he was yanked from the starting lineup 15 minutes before game time is meaningless and contributes nothing to the conversation.
  24. they would get more for him now than they would next year. he wouldn't just be a 2 month-rental this year.
