  1. The reason he did not address LF or closer last off-season was because the Tribune told him to get rid of Sosa and put a limit on what he could spend. The Sosa saga lasted 4 months and by then there was really no one left to sign. Sorry, Beltran was available but he is an overrated money hound. Hendry could not have signed him even if he wanted to because the Tribune would never allow it. Same thing for J.D. Drew and Magglio Ordonez. Hendry has his hands tied by the Tribune so I really can't fault him for not spending in the off-season. Hendry has made plenty of mistakes the last two years but the Tribune is always the main culprit for our continued mediocrity. At least IMO they are.
  2. Here is the definition of maling it in. Eric Milton had retired FIFTEEN staight batters before Nomar's single.
  3. If I were at the game I would have left after the Reds scored a touchdown. Not sure why you'd subject yourself to this minor league team on a 95 degree day and spend money doing it.
  4. If it weren't for some of the picture signatures of Hendry and Baker, I might be in a foul mood. Those pics are just hilarious!
  5. I'll say this. A managerial change will do nothing to change the team this year. IMO, there is no way you can bring Baker back next year, no way at all.
  6. 1997 and 2002 were terrible years but this is far worse in terms of talent and expected results. It's really reaching for us to come down on Hill, who never, ever should have seen the big club this year.
  7. 3 bases loaded walks in this inning alone. They should be bood until they can't hear anymore.
  8. I am sorry for being optimistic earlier, clearly the players have mailed this season in, which should be grounds for them losing they're paychecks. Am I out of bounds for now thinking we might finish in last place?
  9. Rothschild will not be back. He actually should be the first to be canned.
  10. 5-1 and still no one out. As for the F/A list, I'd like the Cubs to make a play for AJB from Florida and Wagner from Philadelphia. I can't believe we have fallen this far. Surely Hendry is running out of excuses for himself and Baker. I won't spend a dime on this team right now.
  11. How embarrassing. The kid should be sent down as he is clearly not ready for the bigs yet. To quote Santo- "Geez!"
  12. Oh boy. I think we lead the league in walking batters.
  13. That's a good point... can we expect a lot of changes this off season? or is hendry gonna play the collapse to an overused bench, and injured starters? also, what kind of free agents are lined up for the off season? or is it too early to tell? http://www.mlb4u.com/teamfa.html
  14. Maybe the organization wants what happened to Sosa to happen to Corey? I doubt that is the case. Corey is not a jerk and he certainly isn't a cheater or quiter. I do think he will be traded in the off-season. That's just my opinion.
  15. Corey fans and the fans boo him. I really don't think this was a good time to feed Corey to the animals. The fans are on edge as it is and he has always been a whipping boy for them. It's sad.
  16. I think Burnitz is a good guy but he's just an average player. Need a big time upgrade in the outfield next year. Barrett just homered so it's 1-1!
  17. This is a very nice site. Time to break the skid!
  18. Beltran helped them but it took nearly a month before he got them going. If Baker wises up ( not likely) he'll put Rusch back in the rotation and send Willams to the bullpen. The pitching hasn't been the problem ( for the most part) with this team, it's been the offense. If Nomar can get hot he can carry a team. Lee, Ramirez and Burnitz are due to heat up as well. I think Corey is going to shine in the last 2 months and I expect at least one more run from this team. They have followed long losing streaks with pro-longed hot stretches all year. It's probably too late but there is time left.
  19. Reality also set in for the 04 Astros fans and the next thing they knew they had their TV sets on for game 7 of the NLCS. I'm not saying it's probable or even realistic to think the Cubs can do it. All I'm saying is that this season has almost 2 months left and if they get on a roll, they have a chance.
  20. Yes, I'm a newbie so my opinion on this will probably draw some laughs. However, the Cubs have 49 games left and currently sit 6.5 back. They also have 10 games left against Houston, with the final four games of the season in Houston. I know the Cubs have looked dead and played like it the last week but you can't just give up on the season on August 10th when you are 6.5 back. I know the Cubs need to jump a bunch of teams as well but it can be done. If the Cubs are within 3.5 of the lead on September 1st they will most certainly be alive. The oh whoa as me attitude that Baker keeps bringing to the park on a daily basis has found it's way into the players heads. I'm not giving up yet and I have to question the players and organizations heart if they are throwing in the towel this soon. I'm fully aware that this team is a joke right now and have shown no ability to suggest they can turn it around but this is baseball and anything can happen. The 2004 Astros did it and they were in far worse position then the Cubs were. As a matter of fact, I think they fell 7.5 back as late as the 3rd week of August after the Cubs drubbed them in game one of a four game series at Wrigley. The Astros looked dead and were written off by every media outlet and even their own fans. After that game, we all know what happened. I might be on a ship by myself here and that's ok but I'm not giving up yet. I refuse to do it and someone should remind the Cubs that they can't give up as well. I'm frustated, I'm tired of what I see and I'm sick of this team right now. However, I'm not giving up yet.
  21. This is a team that is playing like they know they are out of it. It's a classic case of going through the motions. The season changed after Barrett made that horrendous play in Philadelphia.
