  1. I wonder what you could have gotten for Jeff Francouer after his age-24 season.
  2. Damnit -- don't they know that I invested $24.99 in a STARLIN KNOWS shirt?
  3. I get what you're saying. But my allegiance to the Illini was cemented long before I ever set foot on a campus as a student. There was no way I could just switch (of course that is pretty much due to the fact that my father and many relatives were/are UI alums, and conditioned me to be that way). The Cubs and Illini are in my blood, there's no undoing that for me. And what about people who get an undergraduate degree from one school and a graduate degree from another? Does that confuse allegiances at all? I don't have a grad degree but from what I've heard from friends, your undergrad is your first love, unless it doesn't really have a legitimate athletic program.
  4. Being an alumnus and passionate fan doesn't legitimize one's fandom, but there's a personal connection I have with my alma mater that can't be replaced by any other team. The highs are higher and the lows are lower. The Cubs are my number one team. It'd be extremely difficult, but if I really wanted to, I could give up on them. I could never, ever give up on my school. It's personal.
  5. @CubsDen: Cardinals looking for SS and MLB radio saying sources say they could "kick tires" on Starlin Castro (h/t @bbqgoat1968) I'd be very surprised if Castro was moved, let alone in the division. That said, I'd be pretty sad to see him go to St. Louis.
  6. I seem to remember him hanging out at Wrigley with a few friends and playing after hours.
  7. One last time. http://img.gawkerassets.com/img/194wm5oy4h1mbgif/ku-medium.gif
  8. it's the fans/city/ownership, not the players and beckett ruled i don't know what ruled about him but i'll always hate him for being a part of that 2003 awfulness what about miggy? doesn't beckett just get hated for exact same reasons people don't like cutler? he had 2 of the best postseasons ever for a starting pitcher and he's the real life kenny powers. That role is reserved for Rocker.
  9. I'm looking most forward to seeing more of Kojis awkward post game hugs.
  10. you're not gonna do that X amount of WAR was from Theo and y was from CHerington thing? I wonder how Boston fans feel about this as a whole. The ones I've seen feel like Cherington cleaned up Epstein's mess and give much more credit to the deeper organization than they do Epstein personally. I heard that from my one Red Sox fan friend but wasn't sure how widespread it was.
  11. God John Kerry is a dork

  13. I can't [expletive] wait until we're good again.
  14. Nothing Kaplan does/says is troubling to me. Mostly because the man is completely inconsequential to me. His opinions do seem to affect, or at least reflect, the consensus sentiment about the Cubs and their doings, so it's annoying more than troubling to me. That's more of what I was getting at.
  15. Kaplan's irrational Ausmus love is troubling.
  16. Sounds like somebody wasn't watching the all-important preseason It's the NBA: this IS the preseason.
  17. Boozer having a nice game
  18. Also what a horrible half for Mikey D
  19. Rose's "new" jumper looks as flat as his old one.
  20. Very sloppy first quarter
  21. The Pacers are not better than the Bulls. It's really close, I think the Bulls are a better regular season team and will finish with a better record this year but I think the Pacers are and will be a better playoff team. I like starters of Hill/Stephenson/George/West/Hibbert with Granger or Copeland/Scola/Watson off the bench more than Rose/Butler/Deng/Boozer/Noah with Hinrich/Dunleavy/Gibson off the bench in a playoff series where only about 8 guys are going to log major minutes. Again, it's really close and a playoff series would probably go 6 or 7 games. The only way they are a better playoff team is if they are significantly healthier than the Bulls. Rose is looking like a top 5 in the NBA player right now. This team is going to be disgustingly good. I get that argument, but Paul George looked like a top 5ish player in the playoffs last year and Hibbert took a big step forward post ASB and during the playoffs last year and is probably a top 3 center in the league. I think they are a little bit better. Yeah no.
  22. If we're assuming that everyone will be healthy, you're severely underestimating how good the Bulls will be on defense.
  23. For as horrible as we were this season, this is about as fun as it gets. Delicious.
  24. Carpenter complimenting Ortiz through his teeth. Sounds like a [expletive] dick doing so.
