  1. Maybe someday he'll be as good as.....Farnsworth. Maybe. Let's see how Farnsworth ends up the season. I think we all know he isn't much of a second-half player. That said, I'm still not sure he would be putting up these numbers in Chicago...the place just didn't seem to be a good fit for him. As Tim rightly pointed out, Farnsworth was the best reliever on the team the past 2 years, until Dusty ran him ragged. So, as Tim "rightly" pointed out, Dusty ran him ragged in 2003? Looks like it was the right move to me.

He wasn't much of a second-half player in Chicago because Dusty used Farnsworth so much. I don't think you can say that with any level of certainty, especially considering that he pitched more innings in his best seasons (82 in 2001 and 78 in 2003) than he did in 2000, 2002 or 2004, when he struggled quite a bit.

  4. where have you been? that's the cubs' philosophy on trading their players. see farnsworth, sosa, cruz, hawkins, etc. Yeah, glad that Hawkins trade netted us a load of nothing. I assume that you are being sarcastic....? I think that is quite obvious. I think the Farnsworth deal was pretty good so far for the Cubs as well.
  5. I don't recall seeing any comments like this during Dubois's stint as starting LF, or during Patterson's slide. That could be because both of those two's slides were chop-full of strikeouts. Tough to hit those hard and right at someone.
  6. But no one with that hammer. That said, Hill should be traded if the right deal comes along. I am still a little wary that things "just clicked" for him. I am a big fan of his though.
  7. Sisco was a second round pick and I don't think his fastball has touched the mid-nineties in some time. Maybe 92 from what I have seen. Also Don, you don't know what Hendry did or did not do in attempting to gauge the interest in Sisco. Plus, that isn't something that I would presume that other GMs are just dying to tell Jim. And I second Bittner's post.
  8. Maybe this has already been covered in this lengthy thread, but I have to wonder if Sisco would be having all of this success if still in a Cub uniform. Getting unprotected seemed to motivate him to get into better shape and (at least as it appears) improve his attitude. His makeup hasn't been an issue as far as I know yet in KC. That wasn't the case here.
