  1. I might be wrong, but I don't think Soriano was signed to play RF, considering he's never played there in his MLB career.
  2. CSN is saying Fox is going down, as well. I'm be kinda surprised though, Lou did say he wanted to keep him around for a couple of weeks to give him a fair shot.
  3. Slumping? His power is a little down over the last couple of weeks, but I would hardly call him slumping. He's slumping because he has a .294/.318/.341/.659 line in 20 July games, with a 15/3 K/BB ratio. My prediction is that his poor strike zone judgment gets exploited just like it was last year. After seeing that line, I'm not too confident that Cedeno will be able to hit well with the big club right now. Maybe the Cubs are showcasing him for a possible deal?
  4. BTW, here's an official link from the Trib on the Cedeno call-up. It says that Fox is likely the one to go down, not Moore.
  5. Cedeno hasn't been hitting for as much power recently, I'll grant... but he's still batting .310 in his last 10 games. And why on earth are you using errors to judge a player's defense? I thought the world was past that archaic mode of thought. Why on earth are you using batting average to judge a player's offense? I thought the world was past that archaic mode of thought. His defense doesn't worry me one bit. Great range don't mean crap when he drops the ball every time he gets to it, and considering the hitter paradise in Iowa's AAA league, I don't agree with this call up one bit. Need I remind you we have a right fielder who lives life day to day. Take a look at his probabilistic model of range page from last year. Even in a year where he made a uncharacteristically high number of errors, he did enough on balls that nobody else would get to to make him right about the definition of average defensively. Theriot isn't even that good. And Sean, I just didn't feel like crunching the numbers myself. I know it's lazy, but so am I. Seems to me like Cedeno is slightly above average ranging to his right yet terrible at ranging to his left(which makes sense cause that's what I remeber), while Theriot is much better at ranging to his left and the difference sems to make Theriot a better SS. Besides how many of Cedeno's errors are 2-base errors, compared to Theriot's minimal errors. Theriot played two games for a total of 17 innings at SS last year. If that's not small sample size, I don't know what is. Besides, anybody who's watching the Cubs can tell that Theriot doesn't have hardly anything in the way of arm. Fixed, he can still get to the ball and besides a little work on his arm should get him a much stronger arm and make him a very solid fielder. Cedeno has better range and arm but makes way too many errors. He can do all the work he wants on his arm. He's still going to have a well below average arm for a SS. Theriot is a 2b who's playing SS because we didn't have a very good option. Cedeno is on fire at AAA. Might as well give him a chance, considering he's an actual SS. So is Theriot, he was just used at second because he plays there and because Izzy wan't going anywhere. Theriot is a natural SS. Please know what you're talking about. uhh, Theriot is not a natural SS
  6. Why in the world would Hendry be interested in Monroe and his .672 OPS? There would be no reason to give up anyone with any value at all for him. Please don't even bother with extremely mediocre options like this, JH.
  7. On the topic of the Southsiders, does any pitcher work faster than Mark Buehrle? Seriously, he gets the ball back from the catcher and throws the next pitch within like five seconds.
  8. I think Church could definitely put up some solid numbers if given enough AB's. I wouldn't mind him in a Cubs uniform.
  9. I think JH is going to try and shoot big for someone like Griffey or Dunn first, but if the price for them is too expensive, which could very likely be the case, I sure wouldn't mind Lofton, he's having a productive year and would look nice at the top of the lineup.
  10. That's really terrible. Really, it's a lucky thing that it doesn't happen more, like Roast said, the coaches are sitting ducks and with a line drive right at them, there's hardly any reaction time at all for them to get out of the way.
  11. So if I want to change my screen name, is there a way to do it myself or do I PM a mod like I did before?
  12. go away Nationals, only the Cobs can have Dunn.
  13. I'd stay away. His ERA (4.77), ERA+ (95) and WHIP (1.62) are all quite unimpressive. He's also given up 20 HR's, which is the 3rd most allowed in the NL. Plus, like you said, I really don't think we need a SP right now.
  14. The Cubs.com depth chart looks pretty accurate.
  15. I have to agree, we need an OF'er. Jones had a couple of good games but I really doubt he's going to be someone we can rely on in the 2nd half, not to mention Floyd is an average hitter at best and can't field to save his life.
  16. Ditka's Army Willis McGahee Donald Driver Marc Bulger
  17. gah, I wish we could've grabbed a W today, damn you late inning loss well at least we'll stay 2.5 out
