    not to thread hijack but i'm in the middle of reading astroball and this story doesn't surprise me one bit. also, read astroball since it's a great baseball book.

    crunching the number a little more and murphy eclipses him in just about every offensive category. then again, he did have 2,800 more at-bats than maris. aside: murphy had some wacky l/r splits during his mvp campaigns.
