Because Pujols is due a huge payday after next year I believe. If they want to keep payroll reasonably close to where it is, they can't afford $15MM for Holliday, $18 MM for Pujols, $10MM for Carpenter and Lohse, an ever increasing price tag for Wainwright and keep a decent roster elsewhere. If he continues on his hot streak, I'm pretty sure he walks. They can probably keep DeRo, but even with the money they have coming off the books this year (Pineiro, Glaus, Green, etc.) they'll have a bunch of holes to fill and not a ton of money or ML ready prospect to fill them. We're talking about the Cardinals... they could bring in Felix Pie and Rich Hill and they'd put up MVP numbers regardless -

Don't get what? Marlin scrub relievers striking out Lee and then Ramirez on 3 pitches while everyone in the Marlins lineup can shoot a 2 out hit through the infield.

Samardzija is: A. Not a reliever B. Not ready for the big leagues so why the [expletive] is he here?

Gorzelanny has a significantly higher upside than Hart. Ascanio will likely be better than Grabow in the long term, but Grabow will probably help us more this year. As for giving up Marquis - his replacement in the rotation, Randy Wells, has better numbers than Marquis this season. Marquis: 3.47 ERA; 64:41 K:BB; 1.267 WHIP Wells: 2.84 ERA; 60:21 K:BB; 1.147 WHIP But, but you left out the most important stat: Marquis has more wins....oh, and he was an All Star too!!! Even if this was meant to be serious, Marquis really only has more wins because of our horrible bullpen and the fact that Wells hasn't had as many starts.

Even more obnoxious is how the Cubs can handily take 3 of 4 from the Astros and then just completely shut down in all facets just from going down the Florida. I'll be happy with 1 of 3. We suck down there every year. I remember a fairly memorable 2 out of 3. Ever since then, we have flat out sucked down there. Ever since then, the only game we've played is tonight :) [expletive]
