  1. Griffey said that he WILL NOT be traded, and since he has a no trade clause, dont get too excited. On the subject of Willy Mo Pena, he is the guy with the most potential, so i dont he would be traded either. If the reds are to deal one of the 4 outfielders, it would be dunn/kearns. With both Chicago and Houston interested, and both being in the same division, Cinicy can raise the bidding, and also force some other players off to which ever gives the best offer. Id suspect seeing players like aurilla or randa or casey included
  2. would getting Shingo make it any more likely that future japanese players would come to the Cubs. I know the topic of potential Japanese players has been brought up, but wouldnt it be more tempting if they had someone to talk to and learn from on their team?
  3. Unfortunatley, i did not read through all 300 some posts about this topic, but if someone is reading all of them, hopefully this will seem to make sence. I feel that gerut, although a very good player, could be brought because either he or holladsworth would be included, and that team did not want Dubois. Otherwise, Gerut has potential, and he fits this team well *as in he gets hurt a lot*. If the team has anythoughts of brining in a bigger bat, hopefully this move wont get in the way edit... there are over 400 posts in here all about a guy named Jody Gerut...hmm
  4. I had guessed corey, being that he hadnt had a good game all year? but yeah i do remember that now
  5. I had guessed corey, being that he hadnt had a good game all year? but yeah i do remember that now
  6. "2. On April 11, the Cubs fell to the Padres 1-0. Pick the Cub that had an awful game." wouldnt that imply everyone had a bad game excluding the pitcher? otherwise i got an 8/10
  7. I'm not sure if this name has been thrown around in here before, but Randy Winn could be a guy the Cubs could use. He is a good defensive center fielder who can lead off. He seems to be quite available, so could he be an answer to some of the cubs problems? and also, who would we hafto trade to Mariners to get winn and possibly a pitcher? edit... some stats on winn G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI TB BB SO SB CS OBP SLG AVG 2005 91 343 39 92 23 1 4 32 129 34 48 9 6 .339 .376 .268 Career 924 3405 490 961 188 39 53 370 1386 293 601 133 64 .343 .407 .282 not sure if thats followable but it'll work
  8. I missed why Henry Blanco switched from number 9 to number 24. Did anyone catch that from the game today?
  9. Does anyone know if we get anything for Joe? it seems as though we should since he was designated for assignment...right?
  10. Player: Andre Dawson. Pitcher: Rick Sutcliffe Bench: Mark Grace...only reason hes on the bench is because we have D.Lee I would be adding Ryno, but he is now in the hall of fame But with those 3 former cubs on this team, we would be in a lot better
  11. who is wally backman? and also, i like the idea of having greg maddux be the pitching coach. even if he cant pitch anymore...he is one of the greatest pitching minds in baseball...all time.
  12. call me crazy...or a cubs fan (same thing really)...but i can dream!
  13. Isn't this what we always see from a Chicago Cubs team? as in...play extremely well for a while, then choke. Luckily that choke occured in July, rather then the typical august/september allowing us time to start a new run. With a new spark *as said in a previos topic* like a new manager, or even a new big named player, this team is capable of another big run to make the playoffs. Although many of you are feeling patterson is the worst thing to happen to the cubs since....sosa...i for one feel no one available is any better then corey. Maybe doing something, like letting DLee teach him to hit could help, but trading patterson, will probably hurt the team rather then help. I do agree that a LF is needed, but the possiblities are discussed in the Transaction thread. All i am saying with this post, is maybe this mid summer slump, will allow the cubs to make a late season push *like last years astros* towards the playoffs
  14. i sent Peter Gammons an email, asking if it is "legal" to trade a manager, GM, trainer, or anyone who isnt a player, for a player, GM, manager ect. I hope he will respond, but maybe if more people ask it will be answered?
  15. didnt seattle effictivley trade Piniella to tampa for randy winn?
  16. Rather then trading players, why not use our "prospects" more, by getting a manager who will actually play them. I like a lineup that would let Cedeno, Dubois, and even Kelton play more. Rather then getting some older player who could MAYBE help this year, let these young guys get expiereince, and who knows, we may even win! Potential Managers include: Bob Brenly (bring grace to the anouncer booth) Grady Little Dick Pole ect any prospects youd really like to see play, or any imput on new manager possiblities?
  17. the Nats have a very good chance to stay near the top, and if wood can come back, and prior pitches like he did, then i think 7-3 or 8-2 is very possible, which would put us in really good shape
