I don't know how you're defining "deadline" but Rich Harden was pretty sweet in early July '08. Oh yeah, that completely slipped my mind. That was also awesome, but also very Nomar. More excitement than actual baseball results.

I know he was going to being playing eventually, but it is nice that this got done and everyone can concentrate on football now, and I can get excited about this team now. EDIT - and for signing a multimillion dollar contract, couldn't they scrounge up a nicer pen for Matt?

I was just thinking have we had a good deadline since '04? It didn't really work out, but August 1st was freaking awesome. '05 was Matt Lawton, right? That was fun. '06 was Maddux for Izturis (ugh) '07 and '08 we stood pat '09 we got Gorzo and Grabow, really a nothing trade, that brought the ridiculous Grabow extension. '10 Lilly and Theriot for pretty much nothing, I think '11 we had no GM

This thread made me check in on Adam Greenberg, he's still at it in the independent leagues. Looks like the the guy that hit him was in the same league last year and he went 1-7 against him.
