  1. Mets announcers are KILLING A-Ram's effort. What did Aram (not) do? And what did the announcers say? Didn't hustle on the Jones double and did not try to score even though the third base coach was waiving him in. The Mets announcers said that kind of effort will really alienate his teamates since it indicates that he is just coasting through the rest of the season.
  2. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20060723&content_id=1571105&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc Sounds like pretty clear signals that Hill is coming up next week to start in place of Marshall. (BTW Dusty, it was coincidental that Hill's turn was on the same day as Marshall's, not ironic)
  3. Won't it be a little tough on the Iowa staff to have a double header on the same day they lose two of their top relievers to the big league team?
  4. They could have him join the team without activating him on to the active roster until he is needed.
  5. Not so fast, the other paper has a different read on this: http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/cs-060722cubsbrite,1,6175565.story?coll=cs-cubs-headlines Maybe Aardsma is up for 4 days to give help to the the tired bullpen and then back down for Hill to make Marshall's start.
  6. Because they are terrible, like I explained in the original post. I'm not expecting top flight stuff for Williamson, just not the garbage we ended up getting. If the roles were reversed and the Cubs were in contention and had just given up 2 of their top 20 prospects for a pitcher with equivalent numbers to Williamson people would be ripping Hendry. Hendry has been shopping Williamson for a while now and if there was a better deal out there I am sure he would have taken it. To assume a strong market exists for a middle reliever that has an era over 5.00 and a questionable elbow is quite a reach. Those guys are top 30 prospects because San Diego's system is a joke. They're terrible, and if we had given up players with their numbers and their careers to get a reliever for a pennant chase, everyone would've been plenty fine with it because no one would miss Todd Blackford and Carlos Perez. These guys are terrible, huh? Nothing like rushing to judgement on two guys you have never seen and I am sure never heard of before about 1 hour ago. Then you rip on a guy that has actually seen them pitch because he dares to try to make a postive comment that might slow down the momentum on your latest Hendry roast. Nice.
  7. Remember that crappy movie with Brendan Fraser where he threw a perfect game for the Yankess with 27 K's on 81 pitches? It would be cool if he could do that!

  9. Doesn't look like much. Is Joel related to Ron Santo? We didn't give up much. He didn't pitch well and will be a free agent at the end of the year. Not going to get much for him. Hendry said Williamson was highly sought after and he was not going to give away players without getting quality in return. Plus you saw what the Reds gave up for relief help. The contenders should be DESPERATE for help. The Cubs had all the leverage in this situation and they didnt get crap for him. Good job Jimbo I think you have it turned around. The Reds badly misjudged the market. Remember, the Braves didn't give up much for Wickman. Also, to even compare Majewski and Williamson and imply the Cubs should have gotten anywhere close to the value the Nats did is illogical. Majewski has had ERA's of 2.93 in 2005 and 3.58 this year at the time of the trade. Williamson had 5.65 last year and 5.08 this year. Williamson is a free agent at the end of this year, Majewski is still under team control. Williamson has a history of injuries, Majewski does not. Williamson only gets any trade interest because of his name and what he did before he blew out his elbow. He is not going to put any contender over the edge and the market reflects that.
  10. yeah, well, i didn't see any reason why hill would be in the minors this long when he's been arguably the best pitcher in minor league baseball over the past two seasons and the cubs are 400 games under .500. but the cubs can surprise you like that. Probably because he has doner poorly when he had his chances and Marshall and Marmol had pitched well enough to keep their spots. The injury opens the door for him so he should take advantage this time.
  11. With Marshall getting hurt and Hill pitching the way he is I don't see any way Hill isn't making his next start at Wrigley against the Dead Birds.
  12. Since the Cubs picked him up off the junk heap for nothing and he would have walked after this year for nothing I would say getting two prospects (neither of which needs to be put on the 40 man roster) is an overall net gain for Hendry. I never saw anything in Williamson that was very impressive this year so I don't see why anyone would think any contenders would give up value for him. He is an average middle reliever that will probably bounce around teams for the next few years as bullpen filler.
  13. 1. Gabby Hartnett 2. Randy Hundley 3. Jody Davis 4. Michael Barrett 5. Joe Girardi 6. George Mitterwald 7. Barry Foote 8. Damon Berryhill 9. Scott Servais 10. Steve Swisher Honorable Mention: Tim Blackwell Doug Rader Rick Wilkins Scott Servais Benito Santiago
  14. Two things that people say about Baker: 1) He always favors veterans over young players 2) He won't call out his players in the press and "light a fire" In this case, he calls out a player and picks the veteran to blame instead of the young player. IMO Dusty is overdue to be fired for a number of reasons, but in this case it seems he is doing what a lot of people here have complained about him not doing before and still get getting criticized.
  15. Do the Cubs play today? Rational, I have a question- who do you cheer for in the N.L. Central? My point is, how can any White Sox fan act incredulous when Cub fans cheer for someone other than the Sox in the A.L. Central? I mean, you do know Cubs fans and Sox fans generally dislike the other team, right? The Cubs play the Brewers, by the way. Who you pullin' for? :D I see it differently because 1. CubsBullsBears seems to care a whole lot more about the Sox than the Cubs. 2. I root for whoever is on my fantasy team. I'll leave it at that. I don't understand why a Sox or Cards fan would post on a Cubs board and then be incredulous about posts negative toward the Sox or Cards. I see no problem with fans of other teams posting, but it seems logical for them to expect that they are going to have to have thicker skin than they would on their own team's board.
  16. Dusty is a joke. He is a joke, but what other pitcher could he have spot started other than Rusch? He could have pullled a little old lady from the crowd and gotten as good as odds on a win. True, but then they would have needed to add her to the 40 man roster. Though they could probably safely move Prior to the 60 day DL with this strained whatever it is.
  17. Dusty is a joke. He is a joke, but what other pitcher could he have spot started other than Rusch?
  18. When is Mite coming back? How bad was his injury?
  19. His AAA performance easily surpasses Guzman and Marmol who have surpassed him in the Cubs plans. What would be the harm in slotting him in the rotation from now until September just to see how he handles an elongated look. My guess is he'd perform at least as well as Marshall has this season. At this point I can't see the logic of letting Marmol struggle in the rotation when he could use the AAA experience and letting Hill dominate at AAA when he could be getting an extended look at the big league level. They should set the rotation with Z, Prior, Maddux, Marshall, Hill and just leave it that way unless someone gets hurt or traded. Let Marmol, Guzman, and Ryu get innings at AAA.
  20. + sure sounds like he's blasting the pitching to me. They need to fire Dusty and ARam needs to shut his trap. Plenty of people in the media have talked about the pitching being bad. Did he think that was some revelation that no one had thought about before? Yeah ARam, we all know already that your offense and pitching stink. Do you feel better now. BTW, that pitching really let you down the last couple days. That 1 run of support over 2 games really should have been enough for 2 wins instead of just 1.
  21. Walker has been total crap the last month plus. Neifi has been one of the best hitters on the team over that period. I'm a fan of Walker and would rather see him play - have been since he was at LSU. However, no manager worth his salt would be playing Walker over Perez given the way they've each performed lately. A good manager would take his best players and play them all the time, even during slumps, knowing that they would work their way through them and start producing again. A good manager would take his not as good players and keep them on the bench except for occassional spot starts during long stretches without a day off. A dumb manager like Dusty tries to put his players in and out of the lineup when they are hot and cold. It never works long term. What works is making sure your best players get the most AB's because over the course of the season that will mean you get the most production.
  22. The fact that Neifi is starting for a team with a payroll this high is pathetic. The fact that he is hitting 2nd is even more pathetic. PLAY WALKER. The fact that Pagan is starting for a team with a payroll this high is pathetic. The fact that he is hitting 5th is even more pathetic. PAGAN SHOULD ONLY BE PLAYING IF IT IS BECAUSE THEY TRADED PIERRE. Cedeno and his .263 BA / .291 OBP suck. I am sick of this guy. The sad part is he is actually getting worse as the year progresses. I knew a player just like once Ronny, and his name was not Omar Vizquel it was Rey Sanchez. Blanco had his little hot streak, he now will go about 0 for his next 50 AB's. DFA his worthless butt and let Soto be the back-up catcher for the rest of this useless season. Nice job Hendry, you built a pretty awful team and put in charge a manager that figured out how to get even less out of it than anyone could possibly imagine. Can't wait to see what genius move you come up with after sitting at your desk over the ASB thinking about what changes need to be made.
  23. Is Dusty to blame for anything that's happened tonight? This game has been about the pitchers (and our hitter's inability to score with RISP). Capuano's quick move prevents the runners from getting much of a lead so it's not like the hit and run is a good idea to stay out of the DP. Maddux has now put this one out of reach at 5-0 It was out of reach as soon as Lee hit that 2 run homer in the top of the first.
  24. If you want to hire a better manager than Dusty, you don't need Ozzie Guillen for that. A drunken orangutan would suffice. C'mon, that's way out of line and uncalled for. A sober orangutan yes, but to say a drunken one is just ridiculous.
