  1. Nah, I checked my crystal ball and Jones would have stumbled around third and been thrown out at the plate anyway.
  2. And DFA Ramirez too.....DFA them all!!!!! (except Jaque Jones who is carrying this team)
  3. What happens if Marshall stays in? Does his arm fall off after 80 pitches? Geez, I know you need to protect young pitchers, but that's freakin' ridiculous. It had nothing to do with the pitch count. Piniella was trying to break the game open there and it backfired on him. Once again, Piniella overmanaging. Just managing. He had to make a decision and it did not work out. Really I can see it being justified either way, but Piniella is known as a guy that likes to play for the big innings so it is consistent with his normal strategy.

  5. wow What the hell, DFA Theriot too just for good measure. Need to send the message that outs will not be tolerated.
  6. And have missed out on the Andy Pratt era in Cubs history? I think not.
  7. nah noah is gonna walk him. Isn't there another thread for the constant Brewers game updates? Most of us are at this thread. I appreciate the updates when im here. An occassional update is fine. Constant play by play is annoying. Anyone with a computer (and I assume you have one if you are on this thread) can follow the game themselves if they are that interested. It's more annoying to switch from thread to thread. I appreciate the updates as well. Barry Bonds just scratched his ass in the Giants dugout. Word is he will pick his nose when he gets to the on deck circle. Go down fighting i guess. Even if you are the only one on your side. Just trying to keep everyone updated.

  11. As I said in the game thread, if the Cubs win the division it's not because they were the best team, it'll be because they sucked the least. Ummmm, wouldn't sucking the least mean they were the best team?
  12. I agree, let's not rush him. Leave him in AAA until he is 27.4 years old and then I am all for giving him another shot at that time.
  13. Yeah, if the Cubs have a good enough record to win the WC, then they win the division, making the WC irrelavent Is there an echo in here?
  14. That sounds like a contradiction to me. Like saying "I absolutely never eat meat, except beef, chicken, turkey, pork, and fish." Who puts that much stock in Iowa stats this year? Even Buck Coats looks good. Buck Coats is not good. Ronny Cedeno looked like A-Rod. I'm really dubious of Soto because he's striking out in over 24% of his ABs. That's poison. We've seen this time and time again, a guy comes up to AAA and hits like a madman but strikes out too much and flops in the big leagues. And then people wonder where guys like Dallas McPherson went wrong. I just don't buy the PCL "Hey, look at me, my BABIP is like .430, that's totally going to hold up in the major leagues." This was the same thing as so many guys, look at Dubois. It's not like Soto is 3 years younger than Dubois was either. And he's repeated AAA, and was never a great hitter before AAA, just like Cedeno. Not to mention all of the trade publications I've seen tab him as a backup, even more recently. As for the first reply to my post, before Pie's prospect status expired, our two best position player prospects were outfielders (Pie and Colvin, I hope nobody actually believes in E-Pat). Soriano will be here forever. So if Vitters moves to the outfield, it's not as big of a help as it could be. The Brewers drafted LaPorta because he was the best/most ready bat at that point, but that's the kind of move I hate, drafting a 1b/DH(LF if he's lucky) type of guy when you get those guys rather easily from other teams who have blocked prospects or grab a Cust type. On Baseball America's draft prospect tracker, they had Wieters ranked above Vitters, so I think you can say the Cubs did not take the best talent on the board. Furthermore, there's nobody who would say Porcello was not a better talent than Vitters. Somebody tries to argue that, it's simply not going to work. So they didn't. If the BA draft prospect tracker had Wieters higher it must be true. Wilkens copy must have gotten lost in the mail.
  15. How's that Rafael Palmiero lawsuit against Jose Canseco coming along?
  16. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20070813&content_id=2146383&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc OK - who is the wise guy quoting OPS to Carrie? She brings it right back down to the important measurables Can't fool her with your fancy boy stats!
  17. I wonder what the corresponding moves are. I'd have to guess Epatt is on his way back down. Pigniatelo isn't on the 40-man, so there would have to be another 40-man move. I'm guessing Blanco hits the 60-day DL, since according to Cubs.com he's still only on the 15-day DL. Are there any prospects who haven't been put on the 40-man roster at this point? This is getting ridiculous. Yeah, it seemed like everywhere you look, Piggy was going to be the guy added after Ohman went down. Bruce said Blanco already was placed on the 60-day DL when EPatt was added to the 40-man. I missed that move, but I'll definitely take Bruce Miles' word on the matter. Yeah, I remember Bruce saying that Blanco was already on the 60-day, but cubs.com still says he's on the 15-day. I'm guessing it's an error on cubs.com. It will be interesting to see what the corresponding move will be tomorrow. Also, still wondering what Soto has to do to get called up. Even if it is to backup Kendall, there's no reason for Soto not to be up. Hill is garbage. The other advantage to DFA'ing Hill and promoting Soto is that it would free up another 40 man spot. As for all the prospects on the 40 man roster, I don't see a problem with it as most I would assume would probably be Rule 5 eligible next year anyway so they were going to have to be added or potentially lost.
  18. I guess that's the point I was trying to make. By putting him on waivers a team would claim him. (Marquis would be just fine too I shouldn't have just singled out Marshall) The Cubs then could possible make a deal that could get the player or players they need. I don't get it. In 1989 they traded an awful aging pitcher for some fairly useful spare parts. How would trading an effective young pitcher like Marshall compare to that scenario?
  19. weren't the cubs the organization that almost brought Will Ohman to an arbitration hearing a few year back over a really small amount...like 20K? I think Hendry was peeved about it at the time because he expected some more loyalty from a guy he took a chance on and put on the 40 man roster despite injury problems. It was a controversial move at the time and really helped Ohman's career.
  20. If Hendry hadn't signed Soriano the Cubs would be in probably fourth place with a losing record and people would be saying that if Hendry had just put down his doughnuts (or some other fat joke) and signed an impact player like Soriano the Cubs would have had a good chance of taking a very winnable Central Division.
  21. Keeps getting worse for Barrett. Man, this is a terrible year for the guy. And, fortunately for him, he is a free agent after this season. He can probably fire his agent and just sit back and wait for the bidding war to begin!
  22. And, whether people want to admit it or not, $8M per year is about what that type of pitcher costs in this market.

  24. You don't think Kendall is going to hit a walkoff home run? :?: Not unless he was traded to Houston between innings.
