  1. Bartender, I'll have whatever KyleJRM is drinking. I'll have some of what's in his pipe as well, if you don't mind. oh Raisen.... (inside Texas, not directed toward you)
  2. don't take this wrong. I want Hendry gone as bad as anyone. but let's face it, his harshest critics screamed for two of the players mentioned above (Drew and Abreu), and another who is just barely non-qualified, Brian Giles. so when you go thinking Hendry's job is easy and he's just a massive baboon, look yourself in the mirror and admit many of the terrible transaction suggestions you've suggested over the years and where the Cubs would be had they made the moves often demanded here.
  3. wha-wha-wha-whaaaa? edit to delete big url
  4. this got me thinking about a what kind of situation that would happen in, where both runners ran too early, a bobble? it occurred to me what a great play it would be for an outfielder to intentionally bobble a ball. the runner is going to start running the second the outfielder touches the ball, but under the rules I don't think he's allowed to run until the ball is caught, in other words, possesses the ball. the runner has two choices, keep going and get called out on appeal, or return to the base until the ball is possessed, and by that time the outfielder has the ball and the runners momentum is going back to his original base. is that an improper interpretation of the rule, or can the runner advance as soon as the ball is touched?
  5. He has hit quite a few "almosts" though. The power will come around eventually, I'm not too worried about. I'm glad he's out of the leadoff spot though, I think that will help boost his numbers and help him out with a little more protection. not too sure why people believe this still. his career numbers prove fairly concretely that soriano is at his best when leading off, with his numbers dropping off significantly in other spots. also, when given his contract, hendry promised him the leadoff spot. not sure why I have to keep explaining it. career line before 2006 in the 1 hole was an OPS around 845. career line in the five hole is 836. the only reason his career stats are so good in the one hole as compared to most other places in the lineup is because he had his career year batting in the one hole. its really that simple. it has nothing to do with comfort. and what does "comfortable batting leadoff" mean anyway? he likes having "guys who can handle the bat" hitting after him? he likes following the pitcher/pinch hitters? or perhaps, he gets too juiced up with men on base and has recognized he lacks a certain quality......oh the word for it escapes me right now....when there are alot of runners on base.
  6. yahoo box score currently says Soriano had 7 walks tonight. and Izzturis with 11 hits.
  7. Len and Bob Thursday by Morphine. awesome song, very talented muscician by the name of Mark Sandman lead the band playing a two string slide bass. check them out sometime.
  8. thunder in the ninth with Izzy, Pagan, and Theriot.
  9. and obviously Floyd and Jacque didn't chat after Floyd's ab as Jacque swings at the exact same pitch that Floyd did three times.
  10. anyone else remember when Cliff Floyd walked. he wore different uniforms in those days.
  11. three GOs to short by Theriot tonight. don't get enamored with yourself Ryan. keep going to right.
  12. it took five strikes for some reason. he's been generous all night before Soriano right there.
  13. Soriano recognized a slider!!! then another!!!
  14. 5-1. Cubs don't have a lead. pen will be lights out.
  15. at the ASB in either 04 or 05, BBTN did webgem of the first half year for each position. 4 out of 9 were against the Cubs. a couple nights later, SportCenter did mid-summer Top ten in all of sports. included some hockey, some basketball, and three events against the Cubs. it was the year Mackowiak won both games of a DH for the Bucs with late inning HRs against the Cubs in Pittsburgh
  16. Ron keeps talking about him hanging breaking balls. Is it both? it's just a matter of location.
  17. or a couple more starts to get his location back.
  18. History of Sex is starting on the History Channel.
  19. hitter's count = Cubs swing. no matter what.
  20. If I was a pitcher.Id throw every single pitch up there, he swings at it no matetr what and alwyas misses. Anything low and away will get Jones. ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) his worst area is down and in. can't hit it, can't help himself from swinging at it, although he did to my present surprise in the first. Soriano has so many holes it's silly to even talk about.
  21. and yet another coaching regime goes by as the Cubs pitchers still can't get bunts down with regularity.
  22. c'mon Larry. you have to mix up location, whether the calls are made by the catcher, pitcher, or from the dugout. five straight pitches outside to Adrian Gonzalez is going to generally result in a hit. we're lucky he didn't stay on that ball, considering that is where his power is. he's been doing this for years (Julio Franco down the rightfield line vs. Farnsworth ring a bell to anyone).
  23. So far your argument boils down to this one instance where unfortunately he didn't make it to base. By that logic, that is cancelled out by his single the previous day where he tied or won (I can't remember which) the game. I'm all for not pushing it for an extra base when nursing an injury. why risk injury on a 'not for sure' play. but implying that Soriano always runs as hard as he is capable of while not pushing the chance of injury is disengenuous. your going after Monco completely ignores the example I gave above.
