So I’m a long time follower of Cub’s drafts because let’s face it, hope for the future defines Cub fandom. I can remember drafts with Oscar Gamble, Peter LaCock, etc. But a couple questions on this discussion. Is Triantos really that much of an overslot pick? He appears to have been chosen about where he was ranked by most experts. Would he have reclassified from 2022 to 2021 if he wasn’t serious about playing professionally and soon. If he doesn’t reclassify he’s still going to be eligible to get drafted at age 21 after two years at UNC. Isn’t Glenn Cunningham an ideal candidate to sign? He’s committed to the University of Chicago and if you look at their conference it’s not a who’s who of college baseball. If the Cubs can offer college scholarship money is there a reason not to take it and play baseball at a level that affords him a decent opportunity at being a professional? Not that logic always plays. Christian Olivo from PR is going the JUCOs route. I don’t see him foregoing a little extra bonus He may be. He was a bit of a late riser due to the reclassification, and there was talk of him sneaking in at the end of the 1st round. But we'll find out soon enough. Obviously we all hope he isn't. What makes me suspicious that you’re more correct than not is that he’s the lone draftee from the first 10 rounds who’s bonus hasn’t been announced.
