  1. Because their fans aren't as dumb as ours?
  2. Hopefully he's more STL and ATL Renteria and less other places Renteria. .295/.350/.430 with good defense at SS would be awesome.
  3. What can we expect from Coleman as a major leaguer? Is Jon Garland with a few more walks and a lot more ground balls fair?
  4. Gotta go with Dennis Quade. he's pitched in the bigs and he's won a National title while helping break down racial lines. He's our man for player manager. How about James Gammon? In 1989, he took a rag tag bunch of misfits and made them into a contender. imagine what he could do with this kind of payroll. Of course we might need to sign Tom Berenger as a club house leader, and even back then, he looked like he was toward the end of his career. I want Shark nowhere near a major league mound, at least for the Cubs until he proves he can do something other than give up runs at a comical rate. As for Marmol, hes actually been steller in actual save situations since he became the closer. So you don't want Shark to pitch in the majors until he....proves he can pitch in the majors? With regular use, instead of being the 7th guy in the bullpen, he should be fine for next year. And Marmol has not been stellar in any situation this year. His walk rate is atrocious, his K's are down, and when his HR rate normalizes his ERA will balloon up.
  5. This team really can't, and probably shouldn't, make many changes for next year. We need a starting caliber MI and maybe a reliever and that's it. For the MI, I'd rather not do free agency. Odogg, Figgins, and those guys are all going to make a good deal more than they're actually, worth, and we probably won't have a ton of salary room to overpay for a guy. I'd look to Tampa bay, since they have about 67 middle infielders who are all better than anyone we have. Then in the bullpen, we'd be alright if we just went with what we've got, but I'd really rather bring someone in. A bullpen of something like Marmol, Guzman, Marshall, Heilman, Shark, Caridad, Gaub would probably be alright. Although with Marmol sucking this year, and Guzman being an enormous injury risk, I'd feel a lot safer if we brought someone in. Even just a decent 8th inning guy like Fernando Rodney or something. Or maybe Billy Wagner would come cheap if we promised he could close.
  6. Lefty Splits: 2007 - .238/.279/.325 2008 - .239/.321/.296 2009 - .216/.318/.284 I wouldn't want him if he costs more than about 2 million a year, but he is a pretty good LOOGY.
  7. Burke didn't really K that much this year though. 17.8% on the year, which isn't a lot, especially for a guy with power and who walks a lot. And in the 2nd half it was a little less than that(as well as with the BB's way up too). I agree it's something to worry about, but I think that's more because it was such a horrible problem the past two years, not because of anything from this year.
  8. Welcome! I'm curious why you have Burke over Jackson. That's not something I've seen a whole lot of. Thanks As for Burke over Jackson, I figure they're about a wash tools-wise. Burke's got more power and Jackson's got more speed. But I would put Burke a tick higher because of the quantum leap forward he took with his K and BB rates. He always had contact issues but a good eye, I imagine he fixed something in his swing that greatly cut down on the swings and misses. And if Burke keeps his K's down, look out. On the flip side, Jackson still struck out a little bit more than I'd like. Not enough that I worry about him, but enough that I feel alright putting Burke ahead of him.
  9. Anyone know if these games are going to be televised? I seem to remember hearing that MLBN was going to have them but I could just be crazy.
  10. I'd probably have to go with something like this: 1. Josh Vitters 2. Andrew Cashner 3. Starlin Castro 4. Jay Jackson 5. Kyler Burke 6. Brett Jackson 7. Hak Ju Lee 8. Chris Carpenter 9. Ryan Flaherty 10. Dae Eun Rhee I love Castro, but I just can't put him above Cashner or Vitters til I see more power.
