  1. He's on fumes. I wouldn't be shocked if he didn't make it out of ST. I think last year was his swan song. A personal service contract? Sounds very whorish to me. I like it. ? to everything hahahaha I, too, found this post so weird I couldn't single out things to comment on haha Yeaa................. being completely dominate in almost 30 innings to end the season means he is washed up and can provide nothing... The only way this makes sense is if the "He's on fumes..." was referring to Jamie Moyer. And the contract comment was about Kerry.
  2. That's not a good omen. I remember Dave LaRoche.
  3. Of course not, why should they? I'm just saying that the rhetoric doesn't always match that feeling.
  4. I would prefer that to him starting the season in the pen.
  5. It's not hate to value him lower than better players. Correct. It's hate to be absolutely convinced that he sucks now and will suck in the future when he's still pretty young and has shown some potential. I agree with those that value him lower than Brett Jackson and I am concerned about his ability to be selective at the plate and have a good OBP. But sometimes, they way he's talked about is rather absurd. Horse [expletive]. The Cubs have been making very strong hints that they want him to be the starting RF if they could move Fukudome, and that's just absurd. Not that I necessarily disagree, but this is kind of besides the point. We were talking about the way some people on the site seem to be talking about Colvin's value. Last year was his first in the league, he was 24 and could still improve. But some people on this site talking about him like he's the plague, will always be the plague and that it so obvious that they're right that anyone who doesn't immediately agree is an idiot. If he continues to OPS just above .800 then he will likely be used as a 4th outfielder. Rightly or wrongly, it seems Hendry and the Cubs management think that he might be able to improve from that level. Is it so absurd to think that he could?

  7. I resent being called a "thing" and no, as far as Google can tell me nothing has been announced about a press conference this week.
  8. I believe they CAN, they just have more "ifs" than other central division teams. 1. Which Zambrano will show up this year? 2. Will Dempster's numbers fall off from last season as a guy who turns 34 in May? 3. Can Cashner be an effective starter? 4. Can Garza become the ace his stuff portends? 5. Can Wood stay healthy and be an effective 7th or 8th inning guy? 6. Can Ramirez stay healthy and put up his usual excellent numbers? 7. Can Pena rebound and OPS .850+? 8. Will Castro continue his development or have a sophomore slump? 9. Which Marlon Byrd will the Cubs get, the 1st half one or the 2nd half? 10. Will Colvin continue his development or plateau? 11. Can Fukudome finally put together a consistently good season? These are all key performers needed for the Cubs to fulfill their potential. It can happen. But will it, especially when the talent in the NL Central has improved so much this off season? I guess that's why they play the games. Lots of teams have questions like this perhaps just not as many, and Garza definitely improves their chances. But, for me, this is a trade that is made when you know you are a good #2 starter away from winning it all, and the Cubs don't fit that description.
  9. Rosscup put up those stats as a 22 year old in rookie and short season ball. He'll turn 23 in June. Let's see what kind of numbers he puts up at the higher levels.
  10. This is what he wrote in his profile "Im Zac. im a very nice and very fun person who is very outgoing and up for anything. i will do anything to have fun at any time." Anything? At any time? Whoa. This dude's intense. "Hey, Zac, it's 4:13am, let's smoke crack and go inner tubing down the St. Lawrence River!" "Rock and roll, dude! You're on!"
  11. Here's a really good read for those with an insider subscription over at ESPN. For those who don't have a subscription, first, why are you so cheap, it's a couple a bucks, and second, the article basically has quotes from a variety of baseball people about the Garza trade and they go back and forth with some saying the Cubs got a good deal and some say the Rays did. The differing opinions are interesting to read.
  12. Completely agree. I hope Hendry isn't blinded by Silva's first half last year and gets rid of him asap. He may not be healthy enough to deal at this point. I haven't heard any reports on his heart yet.
  13. That too. With the 9th pick, there should be some pretty good talent coming in the 1st couple rounds. And this is supposed to be an unusually deep draft...
  14. He seemed to harness it consistently last year. What makes it somewhat palatable he was traded is that the Cubs have other arms in system. Even if he hits, he might not be missed. Might...
  15. Well, now that Lee's gone, this list is down to 19. But there was an obvious oversight in leaving Kim Jin-Yeong off the list in the first place. The question is where in the order should he go? 1. Junior Lake 2. Reggie Golden 3. Jae-Hoon Ha 4. Robinson Lopez 5. Jeffry Antigua 6. Su-Min Jung 7. Ben Wells 8. Austin Reed 9. Aaron Kurcz 10. Arismendy Alcantara 11. Matt Cerda 12. Pin-Chieh Chen 13. Austin Kirk 14. Cam Greathouse 15. Luis Liria 16. Hunter Ackerman 17. Ryan Hartman 18. Wes Darvill 19. Tzu-An Wang
  16. I agree those 4 things would be nice, but I would want more than just that. 1. Szczur comes back and plays well. 2. Golden needs to impress. 3. Wells and Reed do well. 4. Kurcz reaches High-A and does well. 5. Robinson Lopez takes the next step in his development. 6. Carpenter contributes to the big league club this season. 7. Last but certainly not least, Brett Jackson hits AAA pitching hard. All 11 of those things happening is not very likely, but that's what I'm watching for and hoping for.
  17. I was referring to comparing the Cubs 3rd and 4th starters to other team's 3rd and 4th starters. Not the actual pitching matchups that might occur on a given day. The Cubs back end of the rotation will be better than most team's. Maybe not the Phillies and perhaps a few others, but most of the time, their's will be better than their opponents.
  18. Truffle's angry today. You really didn't like that trade, did you.
  19. Nope, it's very real unless someone fails their physical. Sorry.
  20. Well, the Cubs still have McNutt and BJax. Oh, and they still have those 20 guys 20 years old or younger. Let's see how Vitters and Lake do this season... Hey, I'm trying.
  21. Exactly. And the Cubs will only be paying Garza $5-6 million for this coming season with the likelihood of it going up into 10 million and higher for the following two seasons. Yeah, as I've said for this trade to make sense Garza has to continue his production from Tampa at a minimum and probably improve upon it. Yeah, that's what I've come to in my analysis so far as well.
  22. Exactly. And the Cubs will only be paying Garza $5-6 million for this coming season with the likelihood of it going up into 10 million and higher for the following two seasons.
  23. Cashner. Garza Zambrano Dempster Wells Cashner Trade as many of Gorzelanny, Silva, Samardzija and Diamond as you can. Keep Coleman. I like Dempster as a 3rd starter and Wells as a 4th. Those matchups should be fairly favorable most of the time.
  24. A good starting pitcher would go along way. Well, they just got one. What now? Can the Cubs win the division with this roster? C - Soto 1B - Pena 2B - DeWitt SS - Castro 3B - Ramirez LF - Soriano CF - Byrd RF - Fukudome/Colvin Garza Zambrano Dempster Wells Cashner Marmol Wood Marshall Grabow and a bunch of other possibilities to round out the pen.
  25. The good thing about this trade is that we didn't deal from areas of weakness. After dumping Archer, we still have JJax, Carpenter, McNutt, Cashner, Diamond and some intriguing arms in the low minors. After Lee at SS, we have Flaherty, Lake and of course Castro. Guyer doesn't really hurt that much, since we still have BJax, Colvin (for whatever you think of him), Szczur and others. Hendry didn't weaken any already weak areas, so we should be able to rebound from the losses. True, and on the bright side, the Cubs have Garza in the rotation for the next 3 years which should be nice. Question is will it be enough to win it all or would the Cubs chances have been better with the money savings of not paying Garza, Archer in the rotation at league minimum and Lee continuing his development into a sharp fielding, base stealing, solid hitting lead-off man at the league minimum once he reaches the bigs? Add in the possibility of trading Colvin for value if Guyer plays well enough and it hurts even more. None of that is guaranteed to happen, but the chances aren't bad either.
