  1. Well obviously, if they'd known what pujols would be, or even suspected, he wouldn't have been 12th round. But at some point (period of time), you have to attribute the general success of a farm system to skill rather than luck
  2. I think he is one of the better ones out there, I think his speciality is his able to create or refine a plus breaking pitch (slider). I have no problem with him coming back either, although, I think would Price be more successful than Rothschild. I think his approach towards pitching is more suited for a team that struggles with control than Rothschild. I should also mention that Price has had a successful record of bringing up minor leaguers and having them be successful at the majors. Price has his flaws, I've criticized Rothschild for not speaking out more when Zambrano throws 120+ in a game already decided, Price has been part of some M's teams that did likewise under various managers. But, he does deserve credit for reducing the workload under Lou, something that was difficult to do. I think he'll be better at fixing mechanics than Rothschild. Wood is the obvious example of futility as far as mechanics, but I'd rather focus on Zambrano and his lack of a follow-thru. I feel Price is better at correcting mechanical flaws than Rothschild. If you gave me my choice, I'd rather have Price. I'm gonna hunt you down and make you fix my mechanics
  3. Eh I don't think they'd have kept him Interesting thought, actually, if the rays had an absolute stud like pujols, what would happen? We may find out soon with Delmon. Speaking as someone who knows very little about the minor leagues (and essentially nothing about minor leaguers in the cubs system you guys don't talk about), you think there's a chance this guy could be a perennial top 3 hitter/top 10 hitter if he's at a premium defensive position? I mean, statistically you can't have people like that more than a couple of times a decade
  4. Given the increased interest of whitesox fans in everything related to the game, 6% wouldn't be terribly surprising for the number of sox fans voting in that poll. even though they're probably below the 3.3% average per team, that number goes way up with bandwagoners+other baseball fans not paying attention with their teams out
  5. I can understand the ump blowing that call. He couldn't see, he shouldn't be able to see if he's positioned correctly. The problem was his catestrophic failure to do anything after the strike motion right. Fun speculation: how would ozzie have reacted had this happened to the sox?
  6. Really? Watching him throw out taveras in the 9th it looked like he was throwing a changeup. Lots of arm motion, not much velocity
  7. Eh I don't think they'd have kept him Interesting thought, actually, if the rays had an absolute stud like pujols, what would happen?
  8. From what I saw last year, most people on this board think players should fake being hit by pitches if they can sell it to the umpire. I don't see how this (AJ's behavior) is any different
  9. A.J. is on Jim Rome's tv show atm, he just lied about how he started back to the dugout before going to 1st "I was off-balance" At least saying you heard 2 noises is plausible (the glove hitting+ball hitting glove)
  10. True of how many hundreds of relievers the cubs only wish they had on their roster? (historically)
  11. The answer to your question is called a "union"
  12. Since it doesn't look like anyone wants to answer: Strike 3, low pitch, but it didn't hit the ground. The ump calls him out. molina rolls the ball to the mound. Perz. takes off to first. With the pitcher already halfway to the dugout, there's no one who can stop him. He's magically safe at 1st
  13. Wow, talk about getting raped by the umps
  14. not if the ump blows the call.
  15. Wow, now that is a crazy play
  16. 4 is more than 2.
  17. I can buy every part of your argument here except where you throw in, "Damon is only a leadoff hitter because his manager put him there. He doesn't have to be one, he certainly isn't an ideal one." Damon's numbers prove otherwise. There is no dispute. obviously there is. You're engaged in it, you should know.
  18. What makes you think they'll be playing this weekend? Packing today. Leaving tomorrow. Returning Sunday. So, I couldnt' go to a game two even if tickets were available. I hope you're gone by the time I get to the Big Apple. That city ain't big enough for the two of us. So now we know that it takes JC a day to pack. Are we sure JC is male?
  19. And that's a darn good reason! If my fiance would only get into the Cubs, it would bed so nice. She a Dodger fan so wouldn't be as gratifying as turning a Card fan but nevertheless... freudian slippage?[/b] i had more fun thinking about the fact that they both used the masculine "fiance" instead of the feminine "fiancee".
  20. good job blowing some serious advantages, sox. Maybe you'll have a chance when the angels get healthy.
  21. nice fielding. go spell your name better
