  1. Sox broadcasts are anti-Cubs. What's with that stupid poll question when the Sox aren't playing the Cubs today? Now that Barrett is gone, who on the Cubs bothers you? Who cares?
  2. Jenkins PH RBI single 7-5 MIL
  3. 6-5 on an errant throw by Weeks to 1B; two runners came to the plate. One scored. 2 outs Shouse injured at the plate
  4. Bengi Molina hits a granny in the 6th. no outs 6-4
  5. Zito has been bad. His teammates, and their fans, must be disappointed.
  6. Exactly. It's hypocritical from a catching standpoint. However, I'm sure they're hoping his bat picks them up.
  7. did lou really say that? If he did, I can't see Lou allowing anyone to quote him saying that. Remember, Wikipedia is public and anyone can edit a page. i think everyone knows wikipedia is public, thank you. i just hadn't read anywhere that that had been said before. hendry is so frustrating in these deals because it's like he fashions himself an alchemist, since the hundley/ramirez/lee deals, that he can go out and find 'overlooked' players and turn them into something. however, i'm going to hold my opinion on this one. most people here would probably be of the mind that pitching is what wins championships, and if it takes losing some offense at the catcher position to comfort the staff, and help them pitch better, then i am all for it. and besides, it's not like barrett was lighting the world ablaze this year. and iirc, baseball prospectus had mentioned that his downslide would start this year and it wouldn't be exactly pretty (though i'm not looking at my book right now and could be wrong). that burke, on the other hand... Don't get sensitive. don't talk down to people. That's how you took it! I wasn't talking down to you but you're certainly free to believe that...

  9. did lou really say that? Doubt it. IIRC, Barrett was one of the first players Piniella was raving about during ST. They clashed but I don't think Lou said that.

  11. Yeah Barrett was definitely the best lookin dude on the cubs...wait... I mean he must have gotten the most ass out of anybody. What a pimp. He will be missed. Mine seems to think DeRo is best looking dude.
  12. Well, Maddux doesn't give a rip about baserunners taking an extra bag, so one of Barrett's glaring weaknesses in a lot of peoples' eyes isn't a concern. Peavy and Barrett are really good friends. Maddux never wanted Barrett to catch him; it only happened upon Dusty's insistence. Maddux needs a defensive catcher to help stop the runners he doesn't hold on...
  13. Fox as a catcher is a good offensive player. He's worse than Barrett defensively.
  14. no, it's reported that the Padres are giving the cash Not according to the link I posted a minute ago from SD. I just heard on the radio that the Cubs are getting cash
  15. The Score is trying to confirm this now...
  16. Deserve to win? This makes no sense. They built their team this way because they didn't have the resources to go the FA route. 20 + years of losing is not a choice, it was the only way. The team with the most wins at the end of the season will earn the division (and it won't matter how those players were acquired).
  17. On the broadcast today, they mentioned that 10 players on the team are from their own system. and the Cubs have 8 or 9 EDIT: 10 actually, assuming none of these guys came over in a trade that I don't remember: Gallagher Hill Marmol Marshall Ohman Wuertz Zambrano K Hill Theriot Pie Interesting that most of our homegrown players are pitchers, while a majority of the Brewers are positional players. I heard Andy MacPhail say many times that his organizational philosphy was to emphasis pitching. He wanted to develop pitching for the big club but he had little interest in developing position players, as a whole. The farmsystem was supposed to be used to acquire position players... The first part of his plan worked until Wood and Prior got hurt (when we had an entirely homegrown rotation). On the topic of the Brewers, I really don't care about that team at all except when they stand in the way of the Cubs. However, their fans tend to be very hateful toward us (Cubs fans). I've visited a number of Brewers fan sites and the level of vitriol for the Cubs and Cubs fans is through the roof! I'd like to see that team fail if for no other reason than to shut up their fandom. I think it is because they get tired of all the Cub fans at County Stadium/Miller Park. Those Cubs fans help pay that team's bills. They should have welcomed the sell outs. Actually, it's a win-win proposition because both teams benefit from the attendance. However, Brewers fans can't blame Cubs fans for the direct marketing that the Brewers organization has done in Chicago over the last 10+ years It's fashionable now to say "take back Miller Park" but for years the Brewers sent mail to Cubs fans extolling the benefits of Miller Park (price, availability of tickets, and relative closeness of the faculty). If they think that Cubs fans are going to suddenly stop going, they are sadly mistaken. The disturbing thing is, I've read many Brewers fans refuse to go to Miller Park when the Cubs are in town yet, they bemoan the numbers of Cubs fans in attendance. That's just ridiculous. If they sold out their own stadium there would be little room for outside fans.

  19. Cubs also think Rich was tipping his pitches. AP/Tribune
  20. It was a pitcher's day. I'm not going to say "tip your cap" but coming into the game, the Padres have the best pitching staff in the MLs. Their bullpen has been superb so it's not really a surprise that they surrendered no runs. It's also noteworthy that the Cubs pitching has only yielded 2 runs in this series (to their 4). Best staff in the MLS? Interesting. Uh no, that's a lowercase "s"
  21. HAHA, FIRST PITCH OF THE INNING AND MORNEAU HOMERS TO WIN
