  1. A very nice, and much needed, 1-2-3 inning by Marquis! :D quick reflexes too
  2. Ewwwww, Froemming soiling a Cubs cap before the game starts.
  3. I'm guessing because Fontenot has been slugging so well and driving in a bunch of runs that Lou wants to put him in more RBI positions by batting him near the middle of the order. Ok, Then why is Soriano batting leadoff? Because he's proven in his 8+ year career that he can't hit well, consistently, with RISP. All of his career numbers are better at leadoff.
  4. Maybe... According to the story, Lou wanted Cherry to throw 3 innings yesterday but he was unable to go beyond 2 because his shoulder was bothering him. Petrick was reportedly driving back to Morris IL with his brother when the Cubs called him to come back. It could all be made up but, after seeing Cherry's 6+ ERA at AAA, I'm inclined to think something might have been up with him.
  5. Buehrle wouldn't be signed longterm by the Cubs so whether or not it helps next year is moot. Also, Buehrle isn't worth 6 more wins for a whole season much less the second half of this one. Sean Marshall's WARP is 2.7 and Buehrle's is 5.1. That's 2.4 wins difference which isn't worth trading players to get.
  6. If the Cubs win today, they'll be 6.5 back, not 5.5. Better than 8.5 back. Really? I think so. Can someone verify this? lol, I think that was sarcasm. Yes, it's a two game swing. If we win we'll be 6.5 games back, if we lose it's 8.5 games.
  7. If we offer the best deal they'll bite. They aren't going to trade Buerhle for a worse combination of players just to spite us. Why would we want to trade for a rental? He isn't that big of a difference maker. Also, there's a microscopic chance he'd sign with the Cubs (he's basically said that the Cubs are the last team he'd like to play for) so, we'd be giving away players with years to go before arbitration to our intracity rivals. That's Karchner for Garland part deux. Besides, there are plenty of teams with higher ceiling prospects... The problem the Sox are facing now, and one of the reasons why they have sought to extend Buehrle, is teams aren't willing to part with ML ready and or top prospects for him (unless they are guaranteed to sign him longterm). If you read my posts, you'd know that I don't think we should. I read what you said in the other posts but I'm responding specifically to you saying that they'd bite if we offered the best package. They aren't going to try to help us and, because it's already public knowledge that he doesn't want to play for the Cubs, we would be potentially giving up a lot to get someone who isn't really going to put us over the top. Buehrle said, in a CSN interview, that he'd prefer not to play for the Cubs. He was trying to be diplomatic but he's a Sox player and a life long Cardinals fan... Anyway, I contend that there are other teams with more attractive players to offer. Plus, Buehrle isn't going to help us because starting pitching isn't the biggest concern on the team.

The problem the Sox are facing now, and one of the reasons why they have sought to extend Buehrle, is teams aren't willing to part with ML ready and or top prospects for him (unless they are guaranteed to sign him longterm). If anything, the Cubs need another offensive player. The Cubs pitching, while shaky over the last two days, is better than MIL's as a whole. The biggest difference in the teams is runs score (which is most likely linked to the difference in power numbers).
  9. The Sox aren't going to do anything, mid season, that will help the cause of the Cubs. No chance. If anything, they will look to trade Buehrle to a team we are chasing in the division or wild card.
  10. So where in that tidbit does the writer's sources info end, and the writer's massive speculation begin? C'mon, if you can't trust the NY Daily News then who can you trust? LOL I don't buy this article's explanation. Bruce Miles said, according to his sources, that the decision to halt the deal was Hendry's (not Zell's or Selig's). I tend to believe the local beat writers with a track record of reliable reporting versus outside speculation.
  11. It think this years stats is a little slanted by one game where in the first 2 innings I think we tagged him for like 6 or 7 and then he pitched a couple of shutout innings, and in the second one I seem to remember him looking real good for most of the game and then had one bad inning (which seems to be his big problem this year/his career) That's true but those innings count. The "one bad inning" plagues a lot of mediocre pitchers (defines them actually). Bush is normally the type of pitcher that teams can eventually get to...
  12. Derosa must be in RF I don't know, they didn't mention DeRo but it's hard not to put Floyd in RF too.
  13. Truth or just wishful thinking? No, that's today's alignment.
  14. Today is a big game for the Cubs but I dont think it's make or break either way (the goal all along was to win the series and they still have the opportunity to do so). "Momentum" is only as good as the next day's pitchers. If the Cubs win today they would have gone 5-1 on the homestand and won 8 of 9 games overall. I can't see how that's a bad thing... The Cubs will be playing the Nationals and Pirates next (as will the Brewers) there's really no reason to believe that yesterday's loss will dictate how they play the remainder of the games before the All Star Break.
  15. I think I just heard on The Score, that Billy Petrick is back. That means one of the Cubs is "injured" and will go on the DL. David Schuster is at the park and he says the reliever is at the park as well.
  16. Nice job Southpaw19 :D Time to start a new streak and, more importantly, win this series. This dude: http://mlb.mlb.com/images/2006/03/22/uN5t69mI.jpg Dave Bush, RHP 6-6, 5.06 ERA, 94.1 IP, 9HR, 20 BB, 68 SO, 1.34 WHIP vs Our very own: http://www.nwherald.com/baseball/photos/20070509cubsmarquis.jpg Jason Marquis, RHP 5-4, 3.46 ERA, 93.2 IP, 9 HR, 37 BB, 54 SO, 1.25 WHIP Winning is fun, let's do it again!
  17. Koyie out looking. This stink fest is over. The only good thing about this blowout is it only counts as one loss. Comeback and win the series tomorrow.
  18. Bowen k's looking on a ball that did't appear to be a strike
  19. lol, that's a good question. Maybe once or twice DeRo singles
  20. somebody has to do the PBP so those that read the thread will know... Anyway, I'm bidding time until I start tomorrow's thread. People are still following this game? you're here and others are lurking
