As opposed to the teams that look pumped and excited during a losing streak? As opposed to guys who aren't making millions of dollars to play a game...thanks for playing though. What? I don't care how much money a player makes on any level: if their team is in a prolonged slump, pretty much everyone looks and acts miserable. -

Did his bat just slow down? I mean what's the deal with him? I think he was on the juice myself. I think the wrist injury combined with his age is a better answer than any nebulous "he was on steroids" reason plus tall, rangy guys like him don't tend to age that well because they have a longer swing and their loss of bat speed hurts them more than it does a shorter guy with a more compact swing. they probably shouldn't have given him 5 years, $65M after that one great season. Eh, without the wrist injury that's probably not a bad deal.

Because "the juice" doesn't adjust your swing, which is the obvious reason for Lee's success in 2005.

I seem to remember reading that a lot of his success in 2005 came from him making adjustments and beaing able to turn on inside pitches. That's pretty much out the window with a lot of wrist injuries, plus it's going to slow down his swing (coupled with natural decline). It's an unfortunate perfect storm of debilitation.

what happened Mike hit a line drive up the middle that should have been a single but it took a hard bounce off the pitcher's leg basically right to A-Gon.

At the time the Bradley signing was seen as a no-brainer by pretty much anyone. It's still very likely that that ends up being a very good signing. Trading DeRosa for max value was a smart move. Whether he actually got max value is certainly up for debate. Not signing Wood was, whether people like it or not, a good move. That's way too much to pay for a closer with that kind of injury history. Gregg is obviously not the ideal person to have, but he's likely to be serviceable and he's also likely to net the Cubs 2 picks after this season. Obviously nowhere near being the ideal offseason, but it wasn't the worst.

Seems like a silly thing to retaliate over on the Padres' part. Z is clearly all over the place, and why would the Cubs even want to hit Eckstein? If they were going to plunk anyone on purpose A-Gon is the only one worth doing it to.

Z's got some good sliders going tonight. He's gotta reign in his higher pitches to get guys to swing at them, though.

No, but I didn't expect this either. Shouldn't be surprising at all given Z's history of often being shaky or worse after coming back from missing starts and how he can worked up.
