  1. However many it takes to win a ball-game.
  2. I'm beginning to think Hendry was fooled by July into thinking the Cubs didn't need another bat. The can't afford to take on payroll argument is an empty one - to the billionaire(s) who are going to purchase the Cubs an extra million is a drop in the bucket. Futhermore, why wouldn't he go for broke? To be known as the GM who helped the Cubs to a WS title would be unmatched. Also, he's gone with the new ownership, I don't think there's a much of a question. Given this the most plausible conclusion is actually believes they don't or didn't need another bat. in any other business, management and executive-types, numbers-crunchers, etc. spend a lot of time trying to find out the reason why business is good when good and why bad when bad. they don't just sit back and say "well, i'm not looking a gift-horse in the mouth." this is why hendry is bad at his job, he doesn't ask questions. he's like homer simpson thinking that jack'o'lanterns futures will peak around the first of the year. for a guy who's spent much of his life in baseball, he doesn't seem to grasp the idea that the cubs offense cannot sustain itself without some home runs, nor can they keep hitting near .300 w/risp. things like this do not happen, they are fools gold, and hendry looks like the biggest fool of them all. I know this may seem like a wild idea, but perhaps his hands our tied with the sale of the Cubs? Maybe, just maybe he can't spend more money? Don't you think he could get Griffrey or anyone else he would've?
  3. Plus San Diego lost also. Well the good news is we don't lose ground.
  4. This feels like 2003. No one wants the division. It'll be decided in the last week of the season. The Brewers nor the Cubs are capable of staying hot.
  5. Bottom 8th Brewers still down 6-2. What a wasted night.
  6. Like Lou has a choice. He has a choice when it comes to putting in Marmol/Howry when the Cubs are up by 4 runs, instead of using Wuertz/Ohman/Ehre in those situations. Would you feel comfortable using any of these three? With a 4 run lead, yes. Ok, so maybe not Ohman... but Wuertz and Ehre are perfectly capable of protecting a large lead. Sure they are.

I thought the Wuertz move was good. Unfortunate what happened. Anyway does it look like Howry or Marmol are suffering from over usage? It's a moot point.

  9. QFT! Brewers are bascially giving the division away!
  10. Our pen is fine. Marmol is lights out Howry has been great after a terrible start Wuertz is ok Dempster was great until the injury and should be able to find it Woody if yesterday was any indication will be fine. We need offense and we need it badly. Our pen is not "fine" Marmol, Wood, and Howry are solid I agree You are completely forgetting the lefties - Eyre has been decent lately while Ohman can't get anyone out. Wuertz and Dempster walk way too many guys to be successful. The pen lost us Friday's game and tonight's game as well as the momentum on Sunday. Why doesn't the offense get any blame? Fair enough, the offensive is a problem as well, as I stated in my original post. A good team has to keep the game tied or close in tight situations though. The pen hasn't done that. Cubs scored 1 flippin' run!

If you score 1 run in 10 innings, chances are you are going to lose. We could've played 10 more innings and not score a run.
  12. How many times has W(alk)uertz been burned on walks?
