  1. This is the inning guys. Sori to lead off.
  2. We traded a future HOF'er for him. Sad. I'm pretty happy with our rotation's performance outside of Zambrano. Maddux would have only taken up space and salary. Maddux for prospects on the other hand... Maddux for 1 year >>>>>>Marquis/Lilly In Petco perhaps but I'm not convinced Maddux would pitch as well at Wrigely Field at this point of his career. His ERA was ballooning when he left us. Well, factor in we have Lilly for 3 more years. I'm still terrified that tonight's performance is the norm for him. Been around the league roughly once - he's fared far worse 2nd time through a team. And his flyball ratio scares the bejesus out of me in Wrigley.

  4. so, um, who were these guys tonight. WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?!?!!?!?!?!?
  5. They're idiots. They actually referred to Izturis as a leadoff hitter.
  6. Lou wouldve had Eyre in right now Here's hoping Lou is learning....
  7. 2004 game against Mets. Nuf Said.
  8. Game starts in a few hours - he'd already be at the ballpark wouldn't he? I'm not saying anyone is wrong here, I would've thought we'd know by now. Maybe not.
  9. A quick check on Pie's recent play. I think he'll be up soon, even if the rumor here is false. http://sportsline.com/mlb/players/playerpage/393587
  10. Actually, I think that's completely justified in that situation. whole situation is avoided if barrett just mans up and takes it. Whole situation is avoided if Zambrano isn't a baby, or doesn't try and blame his team for the 13 hits and six earned runs. Whole situation is also avoided if Barrett plays like a competent major league catcher rather than committing both a passed ball and an error to allow a run to score, then following Zambrano to the clubhouse for more. Zambrano's mainly to blame, but Barrett isn't innocent here. All this who's fault is this fight thing kinda misses the point, in my mind. Two people acted unprofessionally and acted like spoiled 16 year-olds on a playground trying to prove their man-hood. If Barrett or Z put as much into improving their respective games as they put into fighting each other today, we might have actually won the damned game. Scoring 5 runs on a day with Z on the mound should be an automatic win and I'm sick and flippin tired of this team's crap.
  11. How is this directed at Barrett when clearly almost the entire team can't run the bases and none of them can catch the ball? Barrett had a passed ball, but Murton and Theriot had their own share of drops. Soriano constantly gets picked off, so does Barrett and others. Man, the list of players that need to be let go is getting larger and larger. Exactly. And I think that that is what Lou was aiming for in his comment. I think he threw Hendry under the bus in that comment as much as any specific player.
  12. Wasn't there an incident with Murton earlier this year where Zambrano showed him up? I can't recall what exactly happened, but I do vaguely remember something taking place. I can remember one with Murton and one with Walker. I think there have been others as well. Zambrano, as much as I've liked him, is a punk. His bravado is fun and entertaining when he's going well, like his predicting the Cubs will win 110 games or his claiming he'll win the Cy. But when things go bad, he's an immature jackass. Barrett's an emotional player as well. We've seen this with Oswalt and AJ. The difference is Barrett is usually taking on the other team and not his own. That behavior may not be good, but it's world's better than pouting and blaming your own teammates. Zambrano was acting like a baby and Barrett called him on his prima donna attitude. Maybe if Zambrano started throwing the ball better and quit trying to act like Kent Tekulve he'd get more outs this year. I couldn't agree more. Z takes his frustration out on his teammates instead of himself. He's always blamed others and has never looked in the mirror. He's never had a problem showing the other team up as well (aka Bonds) -- this time he got called on it and he didn't like it. His lack of mental control (or emotional intelligence) is the ONLY thing holding him back from being great. Instead, he's a nut job.
  13. Fred, your dedication to duty in the face of adversity is admirable. A little loony, but admirable!
  14. Or maybe the Cubs should change their philosophy on Hendry as their GM. I'm not saying..... Ok, yes I am. I think we're stuck with him through this season at least. Can anyone explain to me his, "be patient, it's a long season" comment? Does he really think that all of a sudden guys like Jones, Floyd, Murton, Pagan, Izturis and the bullpen will suddenly turn it on? The only reason why there is any hope for this season is because we're in the NL Central. I think you're right. The teams organizational philosophy really is the issue. There are so many faults in this team's construction it is almost mind blowing. Even if we can get hot and make a push for the NL Central title (unlikely, but possible) it will only encourage Hendry to make another potentially damaging move at the deadline. It's like the team has taken 10 steps back since catching fire in 2003. The regression has been utterly depressing. I think Hendry gets too much credit for 2003. The Ramirez and Lofton deal was a good one, but honestly Houston lost the NL Central more than we won it so I can't really give Hendry props for the 2003 season. nor do I. My unsaid assumption was that a team that close to being good certainly has fallen apart. The 2004 team was better in many ways, but there were still so many obvious holes that it was unsurprising (none-the-less painful) that we blew it. Hendry has hit the jackpot twice with Ramirez and Lee - but that's like winning the $500 jackpot after dropping $5000 in quarter slots. Doesn't make you a winner. The Pierre trade, was for me, the end of it.
