If the Pitching Coach sets the pitching strategy for the team, then I think we did have a very serious problem. I'd be interested to see the numbers, but watching the games I thought our staff spent a lot of time trying to nibble the edges of the plate and failed at getting strike 1 routinely. We all complained about the ridiculous Dodger at bats where our pitches were on the edge (and the calls often admittedly sucked at times) and they'd manage to work us deep into counts. If Bosio was responsible for a more conservative approach from the rubber that led to our opponents being able to set the offensive tone (certainly felt like it), then yeah, he either needed to change his philosophy, or go. Maybe this is what Theo saw: that our staff's approach was trying to be too fine and it led to too many bad innings.
