  1. We did trade top prospects for bats each of the last two years (Busch & Tucker), it's not like Jed's afraid to make a deal.
  2. Remember when Andrew Miller was "unhittable" until he wasn't. A couple of really good ABs here can completely change the course of this game/series/season.
  3. Here's PCA's chance to make a splash. If he somehow gets ahold of one after the IBB, I want to see a bat flip to the horsefeathers-ing moon.
  4. These announcers are just terrible. "Fernando Tatis should hit it in the gap instead of popping up" is both obvious and dumb. It's like ESPN/ABC told them "no one watching knows anything about baseball, just be as basic as you can possibly be".
  5. I'd like to see Cubs really run up Cease's pitch count. I know their "vaunted" pen is "great", but I'd love to get him out earlier than the Padres planned.
  6. If you somehow wriggle out of this, the opener worked even better than expected because that's deeper in the game till you get to the 3rd time through for Sho.
  7. In fairness, there's been what? 2 hard hit balls off Boyd? One of them was the out to Dansby.
  8. That was an absolutely atrocious at bat by PCA. You've at least gotta make the guy put one in the zone.
  9. Pouring champagne on TMac should be one of the experiences they auction off on ALS Day. 💰 😉
  10. Calling it right now: Boyd 7.2 2-hit ball, leaves up 2-0 after Nico error and missed third strike call give Brewers their first scoring opportunity of the day. Keller shuts the door with a nasty slider. Sensing a need to save bullpen arms, Counsell leaves Keller in for the 9th. First two batters hit lazy fly balls then Durbin reaches on a dropped third strike, bunt single gets him to second and miscommunication between Caissie and PCA results in a dropped ball triple that would have ended the game (announcer praise Turang's "hustle out of the box" and draw contrasts to Tucker in "respect of the game"). Game ends on a bloop single, 67 MPH off the bat, by a batter whose OPS is .540 away from Wrigley, but .928 at the Friendly Confines. Keller's line: 1.1 IP, 2 K's, 0.00 ERA, Takes the loss
  11. Disagree with JD here to some degree: 1. Less pressure for other guys. If Tuck is red hot, other guys can relax with less fear of failure because you know there's a monster lurking that can clean up your mistakes. 2. Yes, he creates more opportunities. That's exactly right. It puts pressure on the pitcher which results in an advantage for the batters.
  12. Would have been worse to give up Horton or Shaw or Ballesteros for Alcantara and him get blown up also.
  13. Right, that's his M.O. That's why the guy is a good pitcher, but good grief, you had the answer to the test right there.
  14. Counsell has watched Peralta pitch a ton of times. How do you not tell Caissie to literally not swing at any pitch no matter what? Peralta never intended to throw him a strike.
  15. Just wait till you see that SLG # in Wrigley in a couple of weeks.
  16. Miller is a 34 year old with a 3.65 xFIP who has been the beneficiary of really good HR luck. If he was the Cubs' top pickup, the posters here would be screaming about how we gave up too much. FWIW...ZIPS likes our deadline better than Mil. The Cubs were the 2nd biggest jump in "% Chance to Win the Division".
  17. The Marlins (for not trading SPs), Brewers (for getting no-one) & White Sox (for not getting something for LouBob) front offices also didn't do a great job.
  18. He's a top prospect and he's off to what could generously called an "above average" start, but he's not fail-proof at this point. Frankly, he's a leg injury away from losing his best tool. If were to tear and ACL and comeback a step or two slower, he's an average player all of the sudden. I get betting on yourself, but if he gets offered an extension between Harris and Chourio it would be really hard to advise him not to take that.
  19. As irritating as it is (and believe me, I hurt my knee kicking a box when the D-Backs went up), there's what 3 teams in baseball that have a truly lockdown pen? There's a reason these guys are relievers. The Cubs have enough arms where they are going to make it work. As long as they are in it (and they have a much more favorable schedule after April) they should easily be able to trade for another proven reliever or two.
  20. This is exactly where I'm at on it. If we get to a point this year where we are kicking ourselves for DFA-ing a guy who was a good prospect two years ago, we were toast well before that time.
