  1. *speaking to the Brewers, fans, & announcers/production team* Seriously, this s* is getting old. I know you want to be where the Cubs are, but GIVE IT UP! Cubs have left the door open TWICE in a ROW now, and you didn't take advantage... want someone to blame, look in the mirror!! maybe in a couple of years some team will be showing Braun kicking and throwing the ball all over the field tonight. 3 errors, another that should have been an error, and a two run single that tipped off his glove. that's probably the real player of the game for the Pads, but that doesn't fit with the current avatar theme.
  2. Scott Hairston was your player of the game. 2-5, 3 RBI, Run, and the Pads only extra base hit.
  3. do not mess with the mojo.
  4. oh crap. vs. Maddux Jenkins 1.096 Miller .859 Weeks .887 Fielder 1.026 Hardy .984 Hart 1.333 (2-3) Braun .000 (0-2) and since Bill Hall does nothing against him Gross 2.000 (5-8, 2B, 3B, HR) do it yourself, Cubs.

  6. drove my mom up to Lake Geneva tonight and caught some of this game on the radio. after hearing the Pads seventh, I figured out the Cubs problem in Florida. they hit the ball way too hard.
  7. You do realize it's from the word filter, right? I did not.
  8. probably not the time for it, but "somebody ban me because I just said a bad word" is really tired.
  9. where's our thirty foot bounce off of the rubberized track?
  10. I'm sick of people being sick of excuses, and even more sick of people calling pbp and color commentary excuse making. exactly what could they say that would make you feel all warm and fuzzy?
  11. Trachsel did what I expected. Soto's K in the first, pathetic. DLee's second two ABs, pathetic. Craig Monroe, pathetic. Theriot, pathetic. Mike Quade not sending Lee in the first, pathetic. Soriano's inability to do anything but strikeout unless he hits the first pitch, pathetic. Soriano's ability to go back on a ball, pathetic. mix that in with some bad luck on linedrives and a couple strike calls, and what do you get? All Trachsel's fault.
  12. Trax didn't like that the first one he threw there to Ramirez only went 415 feet. he wanted to see the same pitch hit 435.
  13. Trax one ups him. that 8 pitch inning is purely on Monroe. making a pitch on the first out means the second pitcher basically has to take a pitch. any lazy strike will put a hitter in the hole.
  14. that's very noble, but you're wrong. it was a ball.
  15. just throwing it out there, but maybe Trachsel's inability to strike any body out makes Lou want to go a little stronger on defense. or, maybe they realize that an all righty lineup means Cedeno is the right handed thump off the bench and Lou has more confidence in Murton both as a pinch hitter, and in a righty v. righty matchup in case the Marlin's manager decided to go with a righty when Murt/Monroe comes up to pinch hit.
  16. at which time I do a 180 and start rooting for the Brewers as I want no part of the Padres pitching staff in the playoffs. why? the cubs have shown the ability to hit at least respectfully against talented pitchers. it's the joe blows that give them fits. i'd be worried about the phillies pitching staff. these macro generalizations are great fun, but the fact is the current set of Cubs have pretty much sucked throughout their careers against Peavy, Young, and Maddux, and the core of their pen has gone about 20 scoreless innings against the Cubs this year.
  17. Even if the experience tells you definitively that you are playing one of the weakest defensive catchers in the league? I'm not with you [-( This year Barrett did worse than Kendall and I didn't see too many people yell about that and Barrett may be worse defensively than Kendall too. the switch-a-roo so many have done on the need for defense out of catcher has been rather nauseating. the benefit of defense out of a catcher was one of the most intense debates on this board in May, June, and July. Hendry acquires a catcher who's not too handy with the glove and arm, and suddenly there is no debate. suddenly everyone seems to agree that we need good defense out of our catcher. For the millionth time, it's a matter of degrees. Barrett was below average in most defensive aspects and occasionally made some dumb decisions. He was also one of the best offensive catchers in baseball. Kendall is physically incapable of throwing anyone, anyone, out on the basepaths, and at his best he provides plus OBP with zero XBH. They are different situations. oh puh-leez. saying Kendall is worse than Barrett at defense to any degree is garbage. maybe he's slightly worse, but I doubt that. Barrett's about as bad as it gets. Barrett was below average in most defensive aspects...the past couple of years. this year he was just horrendous. believe me, as I was one who defended Barrett's defensive abilities the past couple years, but after middle May 2007, I could not longer continue to do so. and Barrett WAS one of the best offensive catchers in baseball. now suddenly we want to diminish the importance of OBP over SLG, where as in any other context you and any of the other switch a roos would argue the opposite. no context was needed, and they are not different situations. this went from a board ranting that we traded for Rob Bowen and had Koyie Hill because defense out of a catcher was over-rated (despite Barrett continuing to stink it up offensively in SD), to the board ranting about how horrible Kendall was at defense the instant he was acquired. it was literally overnight that many had a change of opinion on the importance of defense out of a catcher. the very night that Kendall played his first game, many who previously went on and on about the lack of importance out of catcher's defense, who only weeks earlier were excusing Barrett for not catching the four hopper from rightfield, were suddenly blaming the loss of that game on catcher's defense. I want Soto to be starting as bad as anyone, but let's stop reinventing history in order to make the point.
  18. yes and no. yes because it's kind of a lame way to change the outcome of a game. no, because as I mentioned, the league was quite clear about this and the rule was fresh in everyone's mind.
  19. there's alot of interesting context missing from that version of the story. first, it seems incomprehensible that the umpire would allow Evers to record this out. Merkle's boner was especially bonerish? because only a couple weeks before, this same thing happened and the league made it quite clear that a runner in Merkle's situation had to go and touch his base. a second interesting tidbit is that Evers had to beat the crap out of the fan who got the ball after coming onto the field. I've said for many years that if there is any curse, it is the curse of Merkle's boner. Cubs got a bit of a break in 1908, and have been paying for it ever since.

  22. could you imagine being in his position? if it were a meaningful game and I had a chance to win, of course I am going to go all out. but in a situation like this, how can he just let a lifetime of loyalty to this team go? I know I would not be able to, and might just ask to be seated so as to not cross the integrity of the game.
  23. I agree with this 100%. Ryne Sandberg was obviously on steroids going into 1984. his slg. jumped 170 points. had to be steroids, right Stoney?
  24. Steve Stone was obviously on steroids in 1980.
  25. fully realizing that a better pitcher is a better pitcher and should be out there in a must win situation, I'm not too fond of starting Trachsel today. then again, look at the vs. lefty/vs. righty splits of the Marlins big 5 Ram 1.140/.885 Ugg .824/.803 Herm .781/.892 Cab 1.189/.912 Jac .833/.780 of course Miggy's numbers against Trachsel certainly changes that equation.
