there's a make up for the error right there. c'mon Helton.

should have been an error. doesn't change the fact that the game would be over if not for the blown call. it was pretty obviously a HR. In what inning did this play happen? I believe the seventh.

here's the thing about the blown HR call. there's six umpires. they showed a replay earlier where Fielden Culbreth was standing about 75 feet behind third base when it happened. had he done his job and run out there to get a better look, this game would be over.

Cubs are so bad in extras for the same reason the Rockies will probably lose this game. everyone is trying to end it with one swing. this guy probably won't, because he's not facing the Cubs, therefore he doesn't stand a chance of a HR.

their entire season has been like that. I have to think their second and third degree pythag record sucks because they get far more runs than their obp and slg would seem to dictate.

indeed, but from what these guys said about the HR and what Ripken said during that break, I have a feeling MLB has a serious gag order on any umpire criticism. It will be interesting to see whether the highlights even include that play.

I would have thought you would notice previously during one of the 5 or 6 times that he absolutely dominated the Cubs this year. this is the guy that is the cousin of one of the kids from Josh & Drake. i try not to keep a mental inventory of the various ass sizes of the league's middle relievers his performance against us made it 'stick out' so to speak.

I guess the generous strikezone is just for Peavy, because Bell isn't getting the same pitches Peavy got.

Well, we're Cubs fans, lol...and I don't want to see Philly (or Cole Hamels), so if the Rockies are a worse matchup for them, even better. On top of that, I don't want to face that San Diego staff or see our bats get stifled in Petco. I think, the way our bats have come around in terms of power (even in FL, think of all the near misses in the huge park and humidity) we can more than hang in a Coors slugfest with these guys. Plus, facing COL we'd have home field in the NLCS, which would be a little icing on the cake. pretty much agree. in order of who the Cubs could beat, for me it goes Rockies, SD, Phillies, with the Cubs having little chance against the Phillies. as far as who could beat the Phillies, with Peavy going tonight, that would be Colorado.

I'd root for the Rockies as a potential NLCS opponent for the Cubs. We're 5-2 against Colorado on the season and the Cubs have shown they generally match up well against the Rockies. Facing them in the NLCS would be like getting near the end of a big test and realizing you know the answer to the last question. They're a much different team now than when the Cubs played them. Hitting better, and their #2 pitcher was in the minors last time the Cubs played them. while Ubaldo is scary, Aram and Soriano combined for 5 games out of a possible 14 against the Rockies, Cliff missed most of those games as well, and the first series took place in the Koyie Hill era, so it's not like the Cubs were at full strength. I was referring to Franklin Morales, who I think will give the Cubs a tougher time than Ubaldo Jimenez (both look like good young pitchers, eh?). I saw the breaking stuff in some highlights a couple days ago, then the 98 mph heat in highlights yesterday. that Ubaldo is freaking nasty.
