Everton makes absolutely no moves to bring in players during the window while selling off one of their best players. They sit in 19th and have the most difficult remaining schedule in the Premier League. They seemed resigned to their fate...they even hired a coach who's most notable accomplishment is getting Burnley promoted twice. I follow Everton because I committed to like 15 years ago and in those 15 years they've given me almost no reason to continue to root for them....might be looking for a new team soon, anyone want to recruit me?

I'm going to need someone to explain to me exactly how Chelsea is able to spend nearly $350M to bring in new players in January while selling one player for $15M after spending nearly $320M in the summer while only selling 3 players for a combined $60M.

I mean we already knew FFP is a total farce but come on. This is absurd.

Apparently the Ziyech move didn’t go through because the Todd squad didn’t file the paperwork in time.

Finished 9th in my first season in Serie A

Spoiler: show
All things considered I'm super pleased. I was actually in a European spot with like ten matches left but I finished the year with Inter, AC Milan, Roma, Lazio and Atalanta in my last seven matches. But still, a top half finish with a $11 million payroll in my first year up is pretty good.

Before the season I was planning on needing at least 40 points to stay up but it was a weird year and the bottom 3 teams finished with just 24, 17 and 16 points. Inter won the league (28-7-3) with (get this) a +71 GD. They scored 87 and only gave up 16 (including one to me, flex)

Anyway, good season. My board upgraded my training and youth facilities because they were so horny for me after i turned down a raise. They've bumped my payroll up to $13m and gave me $7m in transfer money.

Dunno what my offseason strategy is going to be. The big-ish boys are coming for my keeper, top CB, LW and striker after already stealing my two best midfielders. I could probably raise $50-$60m if I sold those guys but there's no guarantee I'd see any of that money. I sold a midfielder for $10m and they gave me $100k lol, I had to beg and beg during a 10 game w/d streak just to get some of that money.

This is really the most fun I have ever had on any kind of management sim. It's so difficult to stay disciplined and just accept incremental gains but horsefeathers there is nothing like pulling off a big upset or a late equalizer or winner with such a small club.

Update: holy horsefeathers my board finally sacked up and are building me a stadium, taking my capacity from 4200 to 19,000.

Probably a blessing you fell out of Europe, trying to compete on those fronts with that payroll after even a little bit of raiding would've been a recipe for a relegation fight.

The bolded always drove me insane, especially if it's a club that's not drowning in debt. You have this because of me, let me keep making the money printer go brrr

After today’s game, you may want to stick with Everton a while longer

Seems clear that Marsch wasn't going to be taking them to European heights even with more time and investment, but yeah firing him after an unlucky road defeat immediately after the transfer deadline is strange.

All these posts made me want to try and managements sim. I started with a free one and I have no idea what the hell I'm doing but I'm already certifiably addicted.

I did Dortmund and I'm finishing top 4 and won a couple National Cups and finished second in champions league once. I'm making tons of money. Think I need to eventually try with a lower league to make it interesting but I don't even know what my strategy actually is. Like my training has finally picked up and I now get these 19 and 20 year olds who are apparently the best players I have. So now I should just sell my like late 20s and early 30s guys rather than wait for them to be old and crappy? Do I want crazy depth and just cycle my lineup a lot? Should I be loaning my young players out so they develop on other clubs?

Free game from the app store.

Football Manager 23 looks like it's 9.99.

Okay but I'm still. Gonna trial balloon a crap team on the free one to get the hang of it more.

I'm Bournemouth now and took them from bottom 4 to an outside chance of promotion in year 2, and already developed a 75 rated GK, who's basically my best player. But good teams are starting to poach my players already. I keep lots of cash on hand in year 1 and now year 2 splurged a bit so running on thin margins.

I did the free trial of Apple Arcade and messed around with the app version of FM23 but there's so much detail built into the game that it seemed almost impossible to get the full experience through the touch screen on my phone. IMBs summaries are holding me over until I just decide to become a laptop gamer guy, albeit the nerdiest possible version of one.

IMB....also kinda seems like, for the type of thing you're doing, I could probably get away with FM22? I'm not a big enough soccer fan to have the outdated rosters really bother me, especially if I start by toiling away at some low level. Unless the features/gameplay is markedly improved in this one.
